Your boyfriend is not Shakespeare

When the guy in Wattpad stories is anywhere between the ages of 16 and 21 but he talks like he's 45.

Like, he comes out with the most ridiculous things that most people his age probably don't understand.

For example:

"Never have I seen real beauty before I met you," Connor said with a smile.

"The way you talk has an effect on me I cannot even begin to describe, because you are so incredible," Jc said.

"Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?" Harry asked.

Ok, the last one was literally Shakespeare, so that was an exaggeration.

But you get what I mean, right?

There is only one 16-21 year old boy that has permission to say those sorts of things, and that, my friends, is Augustus Waters.

"You're beautiful. I enjoy looking at beautiful people, and I decided a while ago not deny myself the simpler pleasures of existence. I mean, particularly given that, as you so deliciously pointed out, all of this will end in oblivion and everything."

*ovaries explode*

And if you don't know what that's from, crawl out from the rock under which you've been living for the past year or so. Geez.

So yeah.

I understand when you want to make an effort for the guy in your story to be all cute and romantic, but it's really easy to tell when you get a bit carried away.

Like yeah, the guy should say more than just the occasional "I love you" or "You're cute" or "You've got nice boobs" or whatever, but it doesn't have to get to the point where I can't tell the difference between your story and Romeo and Juliet.

Another AWM.

When the storyline is almost exactly the same as an age-old classic like R+J.

Girl meets guy, they fall in love, families don't want them to be together, one of them dies, the other is heartbroken and kills themselves.

Or something along those lines for all the pedantic people who are probably about to tell me that their story or others they've read are nothing like that.

It's okay to write a story inspired by something like R+J, but there needs to be some originality in there or it might not be as good.
