...........................A Couple days Later.........................."I am so glad it's Thursday! We've got the rest of today, and tomorrow before we go camping and I can relax." I said slumping into my seat at the lunch table. Everyone looked at me confused, and I didn't understand why. I looked around to try and figure out what was happening but there wasn't a single thing that would cause them to act like that.
"What? Why are you guys looking like that? I looked around for a second before I got an answer."Hate to burst your excitement for the weekend new girl, but it's Wednesday." Everybody looked over to Alec and shook their heads in confirmation.
I pulled my phone out and looked at the date, and sure enough the word Wednesday was stretched across my screen. My head collapsed onto the table in disbelief. "This week is taking forever!" I said it so dramatical that I couldn't even handle it. I apologized and laughed with the few at the table who enjoyed my obliviousness until Andrew and his friends came trudging up to the table.
"Hey, you guys joining us at the camping trip this weekend? We're just going around getting a clean head count so we know how much food to bring." Andrew was talking to the whole table but something made it feel like a question to see if I was going. Everyone shook their heads to confirm they were going, except me then Tia nudged me with her elbow as one Andrews friends interrupted.
"What he really means is we want a clean head count so we know how much alcohol and weed to bring. Cause it is gonna be a Paaartyyyy! He dragged out the last bit of what he was saying to make it seem more fun, but the table just watched.
"Shut up Dylan." Andrew laughed at his own comment knowing his friend wasn't offended, and didn't feel disrespected by it. "I'm so glad it's Thursday." He said pointing to his joker of a friend.
"Hate to burst your weekend excitement, but it's Wednesday." I said lightly. My friends laughed at my impression of Alec, who didn't really seem to mind it because he cracked a smile too, and Andrew paused for a moment.
"Are you serious? I've been so excited all day about it." He looked at me then over all of my friends.
"Ya, but it's cool. I thought it was Thursday too. We just can't wait for the excitement to start." I looked up towards him earning a confident half smile and a little bit of a blush from him. Making everyone at the table ooh in unison.
We talked to each other for a moment before we were interrupted by Nino.
"Well look at that Andrews and Kori got some good banter going on. That's something you wouldn't see from Handy Andy." I didn't know what she meant by that, but it made everyone fall silent. Nino looked him up and down with a twisted smile before getting up and grabbing Kia's hand and pulling him away from the table. Nobody moved or spoke, we all just stared blankly.
"What just happened. Why is everyone so silent?" I looked around and waited for an answer but didn't get one. "Tia, what's Handy Andy?"
Kayla cleared her throat before she answered despite the looks some of the people at our table gave her. "Handy Andy is his nickname."
"No, it's fucking not!" Andrew interrupted. "Anyone that really knows me can truly say that I have never once done what she keeps accusing me of. He turned to walk away, but before he did he stopped to say one last thing. "She is not invited to the camping trip."
We looking around the table for a minute, but before I could speak again the bell rang for our next class. As everyone shuffled away, I went to my locker to grab my calc books, and homework.
"Hey! Kori! Can I talk to you real quick? I promise it will only be a sec." Nino walked up clutching her bag as tight as possible like she was nervous.
I closed my locker and turned the dial before answering. "Ugh....... Sure what's up?"
"It's about Andrew, and Alec." She flipped her ponytail before continuing. "I know you're starting to like things around her but don't get used to this isn't the bright and shiny place that everyone is making it out to be."
"What do you mean? Furthermore what does that have to do with Andrew or Alec?" I asked before slowly pushing my locker door shut.
"Look all I'm saying is that every person in this town has a dark secrets. The second that you think you know someone, they will flip on you." She flipped her ponytail one more time before walking away.
What she said didn't really affect me, mainly because I have secrets that I'm not telling anyone else here. I know more than anyone that people have secrets and that people have dark sides. I didn't want to focus to hard on what she had said but it kinda stuck with me. When I got into calculus the mood seemed different nobody was really talking and even the teacher seemed tense.
I took my seat and after a couple more minutes class started. I'd like to think I'm not the type to get too deep into anyone's story because, I know that eventually something is gonna change or that person is going to leave and there will have been no point anymore. Yet I was intrigued. I tapped the boy in front of me on the shoulder, and he turned around fairly quickly.
"Hey, do you know why some people call Andrew......." before I can even finish he started to talk.
"Handy Andy. They call him that because when he went into sophomore year and started to play football for the school he became a really big deal. Girls were throwing themselves at him and he only ever quote unquote fucked. " The teacher shushed us, but he continued when she started writing on the board again. "There was a party at Mindy's place and apparently he felt up Nino and her friend while they were passed out drunk. I'm not gonna throw the R word out there because after further investigation there was no signs that it happened and the girls both got checked to see if he did anything to them.
The teacher turned around and we made it look like we were still working, but the second she started to write again we started to talk again.
"So what were the results?" I asked quietly so that the teacher wouldn't have to turn around again.
"Nino had no signs of rape or anything else, but the results did show that her friend had been entered sexually. It wasn't determined if it was by Andy or not, but there are multiple stories that do help and don't help his case. I've got to get back to work." The kid turned around and went back to doing his work, I followed his lead and finished mine too.
"Fucking Weekdays." I whispered.
