Mia's POV

I had made it through my first week of my new school! It seemed like just the presence of my mate in the same area set me at ease, even when I didn't want it to and he never talked or looked at me.

Zack and I had grown pretty close this week and he has dropped the whole issue about my bruises and my father had began the focus more on hurting areas that couldn't be seen, which really doesn't help my problem.

I was waking home on Friday to my home, or should I say the hotel when a car screeches to a halt next to me. It was a decent car, definitely worth some money but it was the people inside that car that bothered me.

"This one should be fun Matt," The guy yells, slurring his words, obviously drunk.

I groan internally beginning to walk quicker, hoping I could out run them if I had to.

My mate stands behind the guy, watching closely. He looked attractive today, with a blue flannel and dark jeans, he looks hot. But I couldn't focus on that right now, I had to get out of here before bad things happened.

"Where you going little slut? Afraid of a real man?" He says motioning to himself, I could hear his footsteps gaining on me.

I cursed under my breath.

"Rich, that's enough let her go," Just those words coming from my mate's lips had the ability to make my knees weak.

The guy turns to my mate, obviously surprised.

"Come on man, you know we're just looking for some fun." He whines like a child, as if my mate controls what he does.

My mate steps forward menacingly, letting out a low growl. "I think it's time we leave." He demands, making his way back to his car, Rich following silently behind.

I look back at my mate gratefully, only to be met by his hot gaze, watching me walk away, before speeding off in his car.

When I arrive home, I slip inside quietly, just in case my father was asleep. He was passed out, a beer can in his hand. I sigh, grabbing a water out of the fridge and walking back out quietly, I was not going to be there when he woke up.

The sun is starting to set and I know I need to find a safe area to hang out. That's when I spot a run down hotel, making my way inside and to the very top, where I sit and look into the sky. These were always the moments that I wish life could be like everyday, beautiful and full of surprises.

I hear footsteps behind me and jump up, in a fighting stance, only to see my mate behind me.

I relax sighing deeply, and sitting back down facing away from him.

"Why are you here?" He blurts out, his gaze burning into my back.

I shrug. "Found this place walking around.

"You should probably be more careful when your alone," He says. I laugh quietly.

"Probably should, but it really doesn't matter," I grab my hands, tangling them together.

He makes his way over to me, setting himself next to me quietly.

"I'm sorry for what happened between us when we met," He says, meeting my eyes.

I nod. "I am to,"

"I didn't mean it, I hope you know," He glances away, scratching the back of his neck nervously.

I shrug my shoulders not answering. All of a sudden a phone goes off. He curses quietly, answering.

"Hello?"

"Oh hey babe,"

"Ok, see you then,"

"Yea, Love you to, bye,"

I hold back a cry when I hear the way he talks to her, looking away quickly, not wanting him to see my reaction.

I knew he was with her, I know they are going to get married, I just have to learn to accept it.

"I better go," I say, controlling the tears threatening to spill.

"Wait," He grabs my arm, spinning me around, sending shocks all through my arms. He looks me in the eyes, studying me like a book.

"What's your name?" He whispers.

"Mia," I say quietly before ripping from his grasp and running down the stairs to my hotel, where my dad is still knocked out. I drift into a quiet sleep, silently sobbing.
