Little Did I Know

Little did I know that Everley's complaint of me being too hot was the start of a miserable time. All of my downfalls seem to occur at night, I realized this after tossing and turning in bed wondering why I couldn't fall asleep. It took another moment to realize that I was sporting a fever and the increase of heat was making my sheets and blankets rather uncomfortable. It took me kicking off my sheets to realize that damn, I do not feel good. This was quite inconvinent for the fact that I had two kids to take care of with one of them being sick herself. I didn't have the time to be sick.

In my stupid mind I thought I could just will the sour feeling that was growing in me away. I laid in bed feeling nauseated and sorry for myself. I even waited to the last second of me being sick all over myself just because I didn't want it to happen. Not only did I have to be a dad, but I hate being sick. With a passion. After heaving for quite a few minutes I knew that I had to come to terms with the fact that I did indeed have a stomach bug. As an effort to try and help me feel a little better I turned on the shower and rinsed off all the grossness that had been building on my skin from the fever. Afterwards I climbed in bed and attempted to sleep.

I suddenly understood why Everley had such a hard time sleeping throughout the night. The constant turning in my stomach left me with a queesy feeling that I could not shake no matter the position I laid in. It took till morning for me to finally catch my break of the shitty feeling and fall asleep. I tried not to think about the little girl that was to come and wake me up.

Lucky for me it didn't happen. I became worried until I heard voices, two that I knew very well. Laila and Everley.

"I'm glad you're feeling better sunshine."

"Me too! I missed breakfast."

"I would too, breakfast is the best!" Everley giggled. Laila noticed me standing in my doorway looking confused and came over to me putting her hand on my forehead.

"I'm here becuase Eve called me telling me that you were sick and had been all night so she didn't want to wake you up. You have a very smart girl there, and you're burning the hell up!"

"Yeah I don't feel better at all."

"Lets check that temperature of yours and start you on some liquid, I bet you're dehydrated." I nodded my head.

My temperature was 103.4 which promptly scared the shit out of laila. All the comfort on my bed was taken away and replaced with icepacks and cold wash cloths. I went from boiling hot to freezing cold but in the long run made me feel a lot better. My body started finally getting some fluids back and cooled down a little.

Laila ended staying the whole day, for my fever kept spiking and E needed a playmate for the day. I am so happy I have people like this in my life.
