A/N: Double anyone? T/W this is a bit graphic of child birth
Scott, Mitch and Kevin returned to the hospital a couple of hours later. Esther had managed to pull some strings, so had gone to Kirstie's house. Once the baby things were bought, she had the idea that they could surprise Kirstie with a complete baby room. Scott had already told her which one Kirstie had in mind to make into a baby room, so all she had to do was hire some professionals that could get it done fast. Esther was just going to be over-seeing the work and keeping an eye on the dogs. That was the easy bit. The hard part was Kirstie giving birth to the baby girl.
Very akin to earlier in the labour process, Kirstie was holding onto Matt when the boys walked into her hospital room. A doctor was right behind them to check on Kirstie's progress again, and everyone hoped it would be time. For Kirstie's sake. It had already lasted far too long for the boys, so they couldn't imagine how she was feeling.
"Okay, we're there." The doctor said with a smile.
"What?" Matt asked.
"10cm. You ready to be a Mum?"
"Finally." Kirstie breathed out in relief. The doctor looked around the room and made a weird face.
"Normally, I would say that only two others are allowed, but we'll let it slide for you. I'd rather you have whoever you need to keep you calm." A couple of nurses were called in and things were ready.
"Thank you." Kirstie said.
"No worries." The doctor smiled and then looked between Kirstie's face and between her legs.
"Alright, next contraction, push down hard into your bottom."
"Okay. No going past my knees." Kirstie said to the boys. Her own mother had gone through the same thing, so Kirstie didn't care if she saw. The contraction started, which made Kirstie take in a massive deep breath.
"Push down for me honey." The doctor said. With her eyes squeezed shut, and her hands being held by Angelica and Matt, Kirstie pushed the way the doctor told her to. It didn't feel great. It felt like she had to do a really big poo. She lasted about 10 seconds, before she had to stop to breathe.
"I can't. I can't do it." Kirstie cried.
"Yes you can." Scott said.
"You've got this girl." Mitch said.
"You can do it Kirstie." Kevin said.
"We're all here with you." Matt said.
"Okay, push again Kirstie." The doctor said.
Kirstie let out a pitiful whimper with the push. It hurt and burned so bad. Thanks to her singer's lungs, she was able to keep this one going a bit longer, but she still fell back onto the bed gasping for breath.
"You're doing so well. Push again Kirstie." The doctor said. Kirstie took a giant breath in and then leant forward as she pushed.
"OW, OW, OW!"
"You're okay. You can do it Kirstie!" Kevin said from behind her. Kirstie stopped pushing as the contraction ended. Everyone saw the tears in her eyes.
"You're doing great. It will be worth it. Your baby girl will be here, and you can hold her as much as you want." Angelica said softly. Kirstie nodded and then pushed with the next contraction.
"That's the head out." The doctor said. "A couple more good pushes and she'll be here." With a sniffle and a deep breath, Kirstie started pushing again. As the shoulders came out, Kirstie screamed a little, but it was nothing the doctor hadn't heard before.
"One more for me. As hard as you can." The doctor said. Kirstie gripped onto Matt and Angelica's hands as her whole body tensed. Sweat was running down her face and her teeth were clenched, as she focused on getting her baby girl into the world.
"Almost there." The doctor said.
"Come on Kirst, you can do it." Scott said. With what felt like a rush of water coming out of her, Kirstie fell back onto the bed breathing hard.
"Here she is." The doctor said, lifting up the new-born for everyone to see. The baby gargled a little but didn't fully cry. The doctor handed the baby to the nurses, who placed the baby in an incubator and rushed out of the room.
"Where are they taking her!" Matt almost shouted.
"Because she's early, she just needs a bit of help breathing." The doctor said, moving back to remove the afterbirth. But Kirstie didn't hear her. Once the baby was out, her vision had started to go black. The doctor pulled the afterbirth out, and a large wave of blood came with it. Kirstie's eyes rolled back in her head and she went limp. The doctor flicked a large red button on the wall and shooed everyone out of the room.
"No. We need to be with Kirstie!" Matt said.
"What's happening?!" Mitch yelled.
"She's haemorrhaged, we need everyone out of the room." The doctor said. A small team of doctors and nurses ran past them into Kirstie's room and the door was shut. Could this get any worse?! The baby isn't breathing properly and Kirstie's bleeding out. Kevin fell to his knees and started praying, everyone else followed suit very quickly. Not only could they lose the baby, they could lose Kirstie as well.
