Chapter 45

I needed to get away from the Twins, so I went to the one place I knew no one would find me. Dragon hunter island. 

"Are you sure it's a good idea to come here at this time?" Leafblender asked, glancing over his shoulder at me. 

"Course I'm sure. Why?" 

"Well... It is the midnight sun..." 

"The hunters can't be any weirder than the riders during sleep deprivation. Trust me." I assured the green Changewing. A few minutes passed before we finally got to the island, Leafblender landing carefully by the docks. Luckily, no one had tried to shoot us down since they seemed to recognize that the hooded figure riding a green Changewing was on their side. 

"Melia! What are you doing here?" Axel greeted, waving at me only to drop the crate he'd been holding. "Darn it." I dismounted Leafblender and ran over to help Axel gather the objects that had fallen out of the crate. 

"You okay?" I asked, handing him a hammer which he put back in the crate. 

"Yeah... My mind has just become so muddled this midnight sun that I've become clumsy." I giggled, nodding in understanding. 

"At least your sleep deprivation symptom is tolerable." 

"Is that why your here?" Axel asked, placing the last item back in the crate. 

"Anywhere is better than being annoyed by the riders. I just happen to know people here that I like." Axel chuckled as he stood, holding the crate in both hands. 

"Well, I'd be careful if I were you. Most of our guys stay sane, but there are a few who get a little looney." 

"No one's worse than the riders. Trust me on that." I glanced around. "Where are Ryker and Viggo? I see at least one of them when I land on the island. Usually Ryker. Mostly because-" 

"Melia!" I freeze and turn, catching sight of Ryker approaching me and Axel. Leafblender growled, standing defensively beside me. 

"He hates me?" I finished, tilting my head in confusion. "Hey, Ryk." I greeted nervously. 

"What brings you here?" Ryker asked, smiling. Okay. Since when has Ryker ever smiled, like actually smiled? And doesn't he usually call me "Pest"? 

"Why I'm here doesn't really concern you since I won't be here long." 

"Oh? And how long will you be here for?" Ryker's mood was very concerning to me. Why was he acting so... nice? It wasn't like him. All of a sudden, it hit me. Ryker must be experiencing sleep deprivation and this is his current symptom. It was the only logical answer for his actions. 

"I'll only be here till the midnight sun's over." I explained, my entire body relaxing now that I knew the reason for Ryker strange behavior. Ryker smiled again and nodded at Axel before walking off. I watched him leave and continued to watch him until he disappeared around a corner. "Is his symptom reoccurring or is this the first time he's like this?" I asked, still staring in the direction Ryker had gone. 

"I've seen him act like this once or twice before, but other than that his symptoms are pretty random. Viggo's symptom is reoccurring however." At that, I turned to face Axel, tilting my head in curiosity. 

"Viggo has a symptom?" 

"I know right. Pretty weird seeing as the guy is as serious as they get." 

"What's his symptom?" I asked. 

"He gets... shy..." Axel answered. I raised an eyebrow in a questioning manner. 

"Shy?" Axel chuckled, shaking his head. 

"You'll see. If you can find him that is. He's always hiding somewhere during the midnight sun." 

"Thanks, Axel." I remarked sarcastically. He gave me a mock salute in return before getting back to his work. "What do you say, Leafblender. Should we go find the younger Grimborn?" 

"Should be a good use of your time, and mine for that matter, so yeah. Let's go find your boyfriend." I smacked Leafblender upside the head, earning a small chuckle from him before the both of us headed off to find Viggo. 

<So, so, so, so sorry, everyone. I didn't mean for this chapter to take so long. I've been super busy as of late and I had a major case of writer's block. I promise to do my best when it comes to chapter posting from now on. Again, so sorry and I hope you guys enjoy this chapter. Also, like I did last chapter, a little explanation into Ryker and Viggo's sleep deprivation symptoms for these chapters.

Ryker, during the midnight sun, is actually nice. That's literally all there is to it. He's just nice.

Viggo, during the midnight sun, is very shy. He hides when he sees someone nearby and cowers in fear when a dragon gets too close. He'll keep his gaze down and barely speak.
