Lysandra was still pouring over her handwritten letter when Aelin walked in, causing her to jump with fright. "Aelin!" she yelped, stuffing the paper under the pillow of the bed.
The queen raised a brow "hello Lys," she paused, "what have you been up to this fine morning?"
"Sleeping," But instantly beat herself for the response. She was already dressed in a flowing purple morning gown. The front plunged downwards enough that when she had to leave the room, she must endow herself generously, something Aelin commented on.
"But you are dressed, even though your small chest indicates you haven't left your rooms. Which I know to be true as you failed to join us for breakfast."
Not knowing what to say, Lys only shrugged. There was no way to tell the queen that a witch and wyvern had stopped by her room this morning to drop off a letter, sealed with a kiss.
Tired of the bullshit, Aelin put her hands on her hips, "who is it?"
"Who's who?"
"Whomever you're hiding from me. Where is he?"
Downcast eyes murmured, "It's a she, actually."
Not surprised at the femininity, but the providence of information, Aelin raised her brows, determined to find out more. "Who is she?"
"No one."
Back to square one, the queen bore her teeth. "Tell me."
"No,"
Aelin leapt, claws reaching for where Lysandra had hidden the papers. Instantly a ghost leopard was upon her, and her fur wasn't burning against the queen enchanted flames. Not a single fur singed as claws, fury, fangs and fire flew through the room and the faerie and shapeshifter battled out towards the bed. For half a second Aelin would be on her back, then the ghost leopard would be at her mercy a moment later. It was a more than fair fight, as they both held back.
The palace room around them smoldered as flame caught everything except the trained hairs. Neither girl paid mind. Neither noticed the smell of fierce destruction bellowing around them until a vaguely familiar, and very concerned, voice hit Aelin's ears, causing the pointed shape to perk up even more, similar to how the feline ones moved. "I saw smoke."
Both heads whipped in the direction of the window, and Lysandra instantly pulled away from the closeness of the queens body, despite still being in the beasts form. A golden haired girl stood in the window. "Asterin?" the queen balked, as Lysandra buried herself in the blankets so she could return to human form, to ask the same question. Hers more surprised than confused.
Asterin nodded, eyes trained on how the girl's body peaked out from beneath the covers, shoulders and collarbones visible and bare. Holding the blanket against her body, she stumbled towards the witch, a look of shock and wonderment in her eyes.
Without really meaning to, Asterin's face glowed bright pink, "Uhhh, Lys?" she said, tripping away.
"What..."but the shapeshifter followed her own flustered gaze, to where the blanket caught on the foot of the bed, and now only barely covering her naked body, a realization that caused Lys' face to turn red as well. It's not that she couldn't turn her naked body into anything else, but this is what she instinctively became, what skin she was most comfortable in. That fact was more revealing than her nakedness in general.
More for Asterin's sake than he own, she gathered up the blanket and wrapped herself up in it appropriately, instantly feeling better, even though she had been revealed anyways.
Instantaneously, Asterin started talking fast, as if a time bomb had gone off and she was suddenly able to speak. "Smoke and fire, and I just happened to be flying in the area when I saw, I swear that was all but then I got worried because it was coming from your room, not that I know where your room is!" She glanced at Aelin,"It just seemed like it could be your room based off of the size of the window and whatever and what I remember from patrolling this area in the passed so I just thought I'd go check it out and-"
Lysandra pressed her lips to hers and she instantly stopped talking. Asterin didn't do anything actually. She was too stunned to even kiss her back.
Lys pulled back. "What were you saying?"
Asterin blinked. "nothing."
"Good." She nodded, black hair bouncing.
Aelin stepped forwards, awkwardly forcing herself between the two girls. "I'm sorry, but what is happening? You just kissed a witch."
"You let Elide kiss a witch."
"Her blood runs blue."
"Maybe mine does too." Lysandra could practically hear Aedion's playful voice in her ear, 'hey, that rhymed' but she shook it off, forcing herself to ignore it.
"Your blood runs shapeshifter."
Lysandra harrumphed. "I don't know."
"You don't know?"
"No!" Lysandra shouted, then added much quieter. "I know, I just... don't."
Hands on her hips, Aelin took on a queenly stance. "You realize that makes no sense, right?"
"No. I mean yes. I mean maybe." she stuttered, for one at a loss of words and without a bite to her tongue.
"Lys..."
Just then, Asterin raised her voice. "I love her, my lade."
Both bodies spun at an alarming rate, but Asterin seemed to have gotten over herself as she was now right in Aelin's face, "I love her, and you can't do a thing about it, or I'll tear you apart with my own iron teeth."
"First off, threaten the queen again and I'll have your head on a platter and body strung over the fence posts."
Asterin sneered at the blonde girl.
"And if you EVER hurt my lady in waiting, you'll suffer the same fate and all pleasant ties between Terrasen and the Wastes will the severed."
Asterin only bore her teeth, this time in a smirk, irritating Aelin all the more. "If you think I'll hurt her in any way that's not pleasurable, you're dead wrong, and how fucking dare you ever imply so."
Aelin spun on the shapeshifter, catching her by surprise. "This is what you want? An aggressive fucking witch?"
Aedion's wretched face appeared in her mind once again, and she willed it to disappear, she could never forgive him, and that was that. "It's better than an aggressive fucking queen." Asterin roared.
"Are you going to let your bitch bark at me like that?"
"The fuck did you just say about me?"
"That Lys should keep her bitch on a leash!"
Lysandra blinked. "Whoa. Why am I being brought into this? As much as I lobe her back, I didn't ask her to walz in here and announce it to my queen before insulting the shit out of her. That's all the witches doing."
Spit it the floor between their feet. "blueblood scum."
"That's my carpet!" Lys shrieked.
Asterin held her hand out to Lysandra as he hopped back into the window. "Come home with me, come fly with me."
Both girls stared at Lys as she realized that she was meant to choose. Her best friend or her lover.
"Asterin..." She took a deep breath. "I love you, and I'll visit. And you can visit, and I'll see you all the time... but Aelin is my everything. My life. I lobe her with everything that I am." she took her queens hand, squeezing it tightly.
"You can go, if you want, just for a bit. Just remember that not even a shapeshifter can hide hickeys."
Lysandra's face reddened as Aelin shoved her into Asterin, the witch catching her in her arms, before falling backwards out the window. They reappeared a moment later, two wyverns flying off, Asterin on the back of one, the other performing Aerial tricks.
Aelin grinned to herself, impressed at how quickly Lys perfected her form.
