Sodapop had asked Stina to go with him to The Dingo with Steve. Stina didn't refuse, of course, who would pass up something with a hot guy in it? They waved goodbye to Maddy, Ponyboy, and Darry and headed on their way.
"So, do ya like it here?" Soda asked.
"Yeah, it's nice. I think I can deal with this for a while." Stina replied. Soda laughed.
"If I had an opportunity to leave this place, I would. Any place is better than Tulsa Oklahoma." Steve added.
"Not any place." Stina said. "2014 is so bad, everyday you hear about some kid killing his family members or some asshole shooting innocent children inside of a school."
"Shoot," Soda mumbled. "Maybe it is worse where you are- well were."
Sure 2014 was crap, but Stina still kinda wanted to go back. Maybe she would have a chance of getting shot if she walked outside of her house, or if she went to school. But that was her home, where she grew up. She liked it there.
When they got to the diner, Stina regretted wanting to go there. It was some sort of diner, but it was like a fight club. People would get drunk and beat each other up. At some points Stina found herself clinging to Sodas side when she saw things happen. He always rubbed her back and assured her it was going to be okay. She didn't feel the same way though, remembering Ponyboy talking about a girl getting shot in a diner, and it didn't take her long to realize it was this one. People looked at her as if they wanted to torture or kill her, again like the creepy Mexican stalker at the Philly steak joint.
When they sat down, Steve had a beer. Soda never drank, from what I heard, he got drunk on just having fun. High on life. To Stina that was very attractive. He had a water like her, and they talked for a little while. All of a sudden, a group of girls came over. They looked just like the ones around when she first met Soda. Stina wanted to give them a dirty look, but she didn't want Soda to think she was a mean person-even though she was when she wanted to.
"Heyyyy Sodapop" they said, fluttering their eyelashes with their crappy makeup that hid their ugly souls.
"Hey gals" Soda said cooly.
The girls gave Stina a dirty look, which made her want to hit them.
"Who's this broad?" They asked sternly.
"Hey, stop the dirty looks, this gal is my girlfriend-" Soda stopped to wink at Stina, "so either be nice or forget that I know ya."
They gave another mean glance at Stina before storming away like the sluts that they were.
Stina's eyes lit up when he said that. Like OMG he likes me too! She got all excited and happy and forgot about Draco Malfoy just for that moment. Then she remembered Sodapop's girlfriend Sandy. Were they still dating? She didn't know, so she didn't get upset just yet.
She looked over at Soda with her mouth wide open, practically saying "really?"
It's like Steve read her mind, because he gave Soda an anxious look and said the same exact thing. "Really, Soda?"
Soda winked at me again. "Yup"
Stina wanted to scream and tell her friends. She was boy crazy yet another time. Maybe that wasent a good thing after all.
"Wow." Steve said. "Things happen so fast around here."
"Soda, may I talk to you in private?" Stina asked politely.
"Why sure." Soda replied.
She walked back to a corner where no one was. Soda looked up at her with those eyes made of gold, seeming to say "yes?"
"Soda, what was that all about?" She asked, not in a mean way, but a confused way.
"What do you mean, babe?" Soda asked sweetly.
Stina couldn't say anything, she just sat there, open mouthed.
"I love you." He said, smiling.
"Is this a joke?" Stina squealed.
"Well, ya know it kinda is, you aren't my girlfriend." He said, running over and picking her up. "Would ya like to be?" He asked. "I'm not setting you down until you say yes."
"Okay, okay!" Stina said, "put me down!" She laughed.
He set her down and walked with her back to Steve.
"You know, we should be headin home about now, Darry is gonna get worried about us. See ya soon, Steve?" Soda asked.
"Sure, bud." Steve said, and the couple walked back to the Curtis house.
Boy, did Stina have a story to tell the girls.
Don't worry, Jordana! Your famous part with Dally is gonna come up, I Promise! Your gonna love it.
