Maddy's POV

We were walking a while, because we talked about everything and got distracted. It was morning by then, and we kept going in circles. I sighed as Pony mumbled,

"Wait, was it back there?"

"C'mon, Ponyboy, I'm freezing over here. How do you even misplace your own house?" Susan said, shivering.

"Quit your yappin." Pony replied, "We'll find it."

A couple freezing minutes later, he managed to find it.

"Hey, you guys, it's Soda's birthday tomorrow! He's gonna be 17 already." Pony said, walking inside the house.

I checked my phone. Sure enough, it was October 7th. Man, does time fly when your in different time zones.

When we got inside, no one was there. All the lights were off, and it was so quiet you could hear a pin drop.

"Wonder where everyone is." Pony looked around. "Darry, Soda?"

We looked everywhere but there was nothing to be found. Susan turned some lights on in the dining room. I helped myself to the couch, and took out my pencil and paper to write about my experience. There's not much else to do but beat people up, go to diners, watch movies, and eat chocolate cake.

'I gasp for air as I return to life. I don't know where I just was, but I was away from it. Hopefully forever. I open my eyes in a flash. I pant and look around. I couldn't help but double take.
Is this really happening?
Is this true?
This place looked all too familiar, I should know.'

As usual, Ponyboy plops down right next to me to see me writing.
Susan just helped herself to some cake from the kitchen. I laughed. I guess since it's her book, she can just act like it's her home.

She came back into the room and sat on the other side of me.

"Are you gonna become a famous writer like me?" She asked.

"No. I don't write that well. This is like a diary to me." I replied. "Maybe one day this will be like Anne Frank and spread around the world. I don't know, I don't really care."

"That's not the right attitude, young lady. My book was based off of personal experience, and look. Its got fans everywhere. It's been translated into several languages. It's so good, we can actually go inside of it, isn't that amazing?"

"Yeah, I guess."

I wanted to return home so bad that it was killing me inside. I knew, though, that I would have to wait a long time until I could go back. If I didn't, they would take these guys away. Who knows, they might still be searching when I'm 80 years old. Oh, if there was something that I could do, to end it all. But most importantly, why us? Why me, Jordan, Ava, Stina, and Ellie?
What makes us so special? What makes this book so special? I shouldn't really be saying anything. The only good part of the book I know is the guys, and I never read the rest of it.

I want to.

All of a sudden, the door burst open. There stood guys armed with a knife and a gun.

"Who's in here? I'm gonna hurt you if I see anything missing!" The one with the gun yelled.

"Hey Darry." I said, turning on the tv to Mickey Mouse.

"IS THAT MICKEY MOUSE?" Two-Bit dropped his blade and ran to the recliner.

"Oh, hey there Maddy." Darry said, putting the gun back in its holster.
"Hey Mom. Hey Pony."

"Hi, Son." She replied.
