ISAK POV
________

i was sitting down in kitchen, minding my business as i downed a couple beers with jonas, magnus and mahdi. everything was fine and we were having a good time being slightly tipsy as i listened in on them talking about girls (as always.)

i usually kept quiet during those conversations, considering i wasn't really into girls.

"have you seen alyssa?" mahdi asked, taking a sip of his beer as he raised his eyebrows at me at the other. boys.

"alyssa?" magnus asked, "the first year?"

mahdi nodded, jonas scrunching his nose in a cringe. "nah, no more first year girls. we're third years now, come on, man." jonas said, shaking his head.

mahdi shook persistently as well, "no, dude. you have no idea. she's so freaking hot."

i rolled my eyes at my idiot friends, suddenly flinching when the loud doorbell rang in my ears. the boys glared at me. "did you invite someone?"

"no?" i responded, glancing at the door with furrowed eyebrows as it rang for a second time, and a third time, then a fourth. i stood up, "geez, i'm coming!"

i walked over the door as the loud noise still continued ringing through my house. i reached for the handle, swinging the door open to an unexpected and definitely unpleasant surprise.

"even?" i said quietly, my body stiff and stared at him in complete shock. it had been a full year since i had seen him after he disappeared, leaving me while we were in a relationship and moving far off to start a new life without even telling me.

this last year had been the worst time of my life without a doubt. i was mentally unstable after even had left me. i thought he was dead, until i found out from a trustful source that he had moved to a different city and had a new girlfriend.

confusion, anger and sadness consumed my body when i saw him standing in my doorway.

"where have you been?" i managed to let out, my voice weak and strained once i had let it sink in that even was really here right now.

he stared back, mouth gaped as he tried to find words to speak but none would come out. he looked completely dumbfounded. like he was the one who should be acting dumbfounded.

"isak..." even said under his breath, his eyes darting around anxiously. "i'd like to explain why i-"

"you know what," i blurted out, cutting him off as i caught his attention. "never mind. i don't want to hear what you have to say." before he could even respond, i slammed the door shut in his face.

my breath hitched in my throat as i let what just happened dawn on me. i must've zoned out because before i knew it, i realized jonas was asking me what was wrong and knocks continued coming from the door.

"it's even." i said quietly, probably sounding like i was going to cry- which, i was. my eyes began to water and a lump formed in my throat as memories of that time that i tried so hard to forget about flooded back into my memory like it was yesterday. "don't open it." i warned, turning to look at jonas who looked like he was about to fight someone.

"i'm opening it." jonas grumbled and before i could protest, he opened the door, rushed outside and shut the door behind him so i couldn't see the two.

"jonas-" i tried to stop him, but it was too late and the door was already closed. my eyes widened and i genuinely didn't know what to do, so instead, i just put my ear against the door and eavesdropped.

i couldn't even make out was even was saying because jonas wouldn't stop yelling over him. i rolled my eyes, wishing he'd shut up so i could hear what even had to say. wait- no, i didn't care what he had to say.
