EVEN POV
________

i stood at my locker, putting a couple textbooks inside as i was glad that school was finally over for the day. i shut the door, hearing fast footsteps coming up from behind me and turned around to see magnus.

"oh, hey, magnus." i said politely and smiled, seeing that he looked a bit rushed and panicked.

"hi, even." he replied quickly, "um, jonas wanted me to tell you that isak got into another... well, situation again."

why was i not surprised?

my boyfriend had been getting into all sorts of fights recently with these guys- and i genuinely had no idea why. he'd always hesitate to tell me why and honestly, i didn't want to push his buttons so i'd just leave it at that- but now, i needed an explanation.

i sighed, "of course he did. where is he?" i asked.

"locker room."

i nodded and hurried over to where the scene was with magnus following behind. it wasn't long before i could hear jonas yelling and other sounds that worried me. i entered the room, seeing isak over some guy, punching him over and over again as blood splattered from whoever the poor guy was' mouth.

"isak!" i yelled, seeing his head snap in my direction. there was anger and resentment in his eyes until he met mine. his expression softened and a look of guilt came over him, but i instantly regretting saying anything because when i distracted isak- he was flipped over and now was getting beaten up.

i watched as he tried to push the guy off of him, but was just getting hit multiple times and was having a hard time fighting back now that he was caught off guard.

without hesitation, i walked over and yanked the guy off of isak, pushing him away and giving him a warning look. "get out of here." i said, narrowing my eyes.

he grumbled, wiping the blood that poured out of his nose. "this isn't over." without further interaction, he left the room and now it was just me, isak, his friends and the smeared blood on the floor.

i grabbed isak and lifted him up so that he was now on his feet. my hands cupped his cheeks in concern as he held his hand over his cheek to hide the cut that blood was coming out of, though he wasn't doing a very good job considering it was clear to see.

"isak." i said sternly, catching his attention as he met my gaze. "we're going home and you're gonna tell me exactly why you've been getting in these fights, okay?"

he frowned, looking down to avert from my stare. he shook his head, "it's fine, it doesn't matter-"

"isak." i repeated, raising my voice slightly so he knew i was serious. he clenched his aching jaw, leaning into my touch and nodded timidly.

i glanced at his friends to jonas taking the boys out, leaving me and isak alone in the locker room. when they left, i felt myself being embraced by the smaller boy as he wrapped his arms around me in regret.

he didn't say a word- he just rested his head against my chest silently with a tight grip and i knew what he wanted to say to me without him having to even open his mouth. "look, it's okay. let's just get home and clean you up." i assured, running my fingers through his hair once before pulling back to see his face.

"alright." he nodded and with that, we left school.

-

isak sat on the bathroom sink as soaked a cloth in warm water. i twisted it, squeezing the water out so it was damp and looked back at him. i examined the deep cut on his cheek, blood that had oozed out of the opening earlier was now dry.

reaching over, i gently pressed the wet cloth to his cheek which caused him to wince, jolting back a little. i waited a moment for him to relax before repeating my actions, "so, what's going on with you?"

he was way quieter than usual, "nothing." he murmured under his breath, though i could hear the slightest bit of shame peak in his tone.

"can't you just be honest?" i said, getting a bit frustrated at how secretive he was being over these fights that have been going on for the past month. "you know i won't get mad."

"i know," he sighed, "i just don't want you to get involved."

"i won't."

he paused, thinking about his next words before actually saying them. "they kept saying things about you, that boy in particular but mainly him and his whole group. like, really- really bad things that they'd do to you for liking me, since i'm a boy. they also said stuff about me but i didn't care until they brought you up. they're just a bunch of homophobic idiots."

i thought about it for a second, knowing that isak was a lot more sensitive than i was and got offended way easier. i understood why he did what he did, but i still didn't get why he thought i'd do something. he knew i wasn't a violent person.

"are you mad?" he asked meekly, snapping me out of my thoughts.

i glanced at him and furrowed my eyebrows, "no, of course not." using the cloth, i wiped more of the dry blood off and grabbed some antibiotic ointment, squeezing some onto my finger as i carefully smeared it onto the nasty gash. "i think that you could've handled it better than fighting, though. you should've just talked to me from the beginning."

"i'm sorry."

i met his eyes to see sincerity clear on his face. i gave him a small, reassuring smile and leaned forward to kiss his forehead. "don't be. i'm finished, by the way."

he jumped off the sink, turning so he could get a good look of his fixed up cut. after checking it out, he faced me again, placing his hand on the side of my neck to pull my lips to his, "i won't get in anymore fights."

"you swear?"

"i swear."
