Why was it so hard to imagine that Remus wanted to be a father? He was Thomas's creativity just as much as Roman was. He was just as much about of his 'fancifulness' as Roman. Just as much his Romance... If not just a smidge darker. That wasn't all Remus was. That wasn't all Remus wanted. He wasn't making fun when he had said he was the unloved brother from the genesis. He wanted a family just as much as Roman did. Even if 'his' thought tended to make the family look more like the Adams...
He would give anything for them to see the whole him and not just 'intrusive thoughts'.
Why was Virgil the exception? Why was Virgil the only one people willingly saw differently? He was Anxiety. He... He was more than that. He was practically fear in general. He was a dark side and they not only took him in but protected him. They never even bothered to call him a dark side. They never ONCE called him that. It was always 'them' who was labeled such. But were they really dark? Deception is self-preservation. Even more so it's creative in its own right. Remus was LITERALLY creativity. Why was it that they were label 'dark' and Virgil was excluded?
'We all represent more than our base titles.' How many times had Remus heard that when they were discussing Virgil? Yet Deceit pops up and he's 'not to be trusted'. Remus finally shows himself and he's demented and 'scary'. That was the last thing Remus wanted to be. Hearing Thomas call him that, had been the worst. He may not be a Disney prince like his brother but he sure as hell didn't want to be the villain. He couldn't help that 'his' thoughts were twisted or inappropriate. He had no filter. That's how he would describe himself. He just simply has no filter.
This whole time Remus had been just sitting on his bed going over every little that had happened. You think Anxiety is the only one with troubling thoughts like 'It's all your fault.' 'shouldn't 'ave said anything.' 'Your lucky Roman didn't even use his sword.' 'You know he wanted to.'? Those thoughts fall under the name of intrusive thoughts... Depressive or anxious or insane, it's all intrusive... it's all he deals with. Logan wasn't kidding. Roman really was Netflix home and family. And in complete and total honesty, as Remus strives to put out, he was jealous.
Virgil knew that too. He knew exactly what would have been going through Remus's head at that very moment. That's why he wasn't focusing on anything that was being said to him. Everyone was acting as if nothing had happened. Part of him was glad that he didn't have to deal with all that shit but he was still at some point one of them. He knew them better than anyone. He knew the kind of person Remus and Deceit were really. He also knew Roman had fucked BIG TIME!
"Jesus Christ, Roman." His voice shook with nerves as the man stopped talking to glance over at Anx. It had been a long while and Virgil was surprised to see Remus hadn't snapped yet. It wasn't that the man 'meant' to. He had no filter and he had no impulse control. Or barely any if the fact that he hasn't killed Roman yet meant anything. "Are you fucking stupid?"
"Wait, what?" Roman was stunned. This was the first thing his emo nightmare had said since the whole Remus issue happened and it was that? He could see Virgil shaking in his seat. He just didn't understand what was wrong. But the right there was the problem. Roman didn't know what he had done wrong. He didn't know what he did. He had taken Remus's wish and crumbled it up. He had told him it was unrealistic to think he could have a child. And then if that wasn't enough... He had basically told Remus he wasn't apart of the family. That his own niece or nephew was never going to know about him. There was plenty of weird and crazy uncles but Remus wasn't even able to have that. Roman had told his brother to his face that he would NEVER have a family and that he would never be apart of his. Virgil honestly felt bad for the guy. "What did I do now?"
"Why did you have to say that to Remus?" The creative one paled as the 'logality' pair quickly moved to give the two some space. Virgil didn't even look up at his boyfriend. His mind was still in the event. "You didn't have to say that."
"Yes, I did. Could you imagine Remus caring for a child? He would only end up hurting the poor thing." Virgil sighed as he curled up into himself some more. Roman was starting to worry. "Don't you agree?"
"Whether it's true or not Roman, doesn't matter. For one were all figments of Thomas's imagination. We can't have kids. Not unless Thomas gets another side. And even then...You didn't have to say that." Virgil clenched his fists tightly as he tried not to cry. He wasn't one of them anymore but that didn't mean he had forgotten everything they did together. Sure things weren't all sunshine and rainbows but life never is. The one good thing he got to experience with Remus was when the rat-man went off about own dreams for the future. Not the thought that would plague him, no... His actual thoughts about what he wanted. Ironically, it was pretty vanilla. A nice house with a picket fence. He was adamant about there being a large tree in the back with a treehouse for the kids to go up and hang. He was 6 when he first started talking about it. He was 8 when he finally drew it all down on paper. Virgil knew for a fact the man still had it on his wall. "Out of all the twisted and demented things that could have come out of his mouth, you chose his one actual legitimate wish for a future to throw in a shithole."
"Look let's not worry about this all right now, yeah?" Roman was tense. To be honest he didn't want to talk about his brother anymore. He was guilty enough as it is. He didn't want Virgil making it worse. "How about we all go for a picnic? The four of us... like a double date!"
