"Good morning students," said Ms. Stacy.
Everyone's head turned to greet her with welcoming smiles, all except Billy and Josie of course, they didn't seem to have a welcoming bone in there body.
"Everyone push your desks aside," she said whilst setting her bag on her chair and making her way to the chalkboard. The chalk squeaked as it met the black board, considering how firmly ms. Stacy wrote. Anne's eyes widened and she smiled widely as she read the words her teacher had just written. Gilbert immediately chuckled to himself, and looked over at Anne in an attempt to catch her eye.
January Spelling bee
"Everyone walk up to the front of the classroom," commanded Ms. Stacy, and so that's what each student did.
Anne finally allowed herself to look over at her arch-nemesis. Her breathe caught when the knowledge came to her that he had already been looking at her. Of course she quickly switched out her enamored expression (though of course she was not in anyway enamored by Gilbert Blythe) for her most intimidating, competitive, face. She narrowed her eyes at Gilbert and rose her eyebrow. Gilbert did the same except he had a playful smile.

Anne took her spot on the girls side in front of the chalkboard, meanwhile Gilbert strategically made his way closer to her by cutting in front of the boys.
"Hey, Gilbert what-," Charlie cut himself off when he realized the reason for his best friend moving away from him. He maneuvered his head so he could see what Gilbert was staring at, a smirk rose to his lips, his eyebrow creeped up. As he moved his eyes back to the teacher, he softly chuckled to himself, shook his head, knowing full well that there was nothing he could do to stop that moke from getting closer to the fiery redhead.

Anne looked at her dear Ms. Stacy determined to beat Gilbert Blythe once again. She had a wining streak to keep up, she had beat him her first spelling bee, her second, he beat her on her third, but that was because he kept staring at her so intently she couldn't focus, "how manipulative of him," she thought. The rest of the spelling bee he had been on the steamer so of course Anne won with no struggle.

"Moody, spell fierce," Said the teacher.
"F-e-i-r-c-e," he said hesitantly.
"I'm very sorry but that is incorrect"
"Josie, spell, vibrant"
"V-I-b-r-a-n-t"
"Correct, nice job, now, Charlie spell, haste"
"H-a-s-t-e"
"Gilbert spell determination," said Ms. Stacy who has purposely given a more difficult one to the boy, knowing if she did average ones for both Anne and Gilbert they would be here all day.
"D-e-t-e-r-m-I-n-a-t-I-o-n," he said fluently, then he swiftly moved his head towards Anne and gave her a teasing wink.
"Correct Mr. Blythe," said the teacher who was not in the least bit surprised.
Anne looked over at Gilbert even though as soon as the spelling bee had been announced she vowed that she would not, as to make sure she wasn't distracted like the time he beat her. Not that Gilbert Blythe is distracting!
They both looked into each other's eyes, Anne was perplexed by the expression Gilbert was wearing. His eyes, why was he looking at her like that, Anne became self conscious to the fact that she might be looking at him like that. In one part of her mind she told herself to snap out of it, focus on the task at hand, which was to intimidate Gilbert, first of all, then beat him and have the great satisfaction of another victory to think of that night. Another part of her mind, that she buried deep, was thinking his eyes were oh so-
"Pulchritudinous," said Ms. Stacy looking at Anne.
Anne was snapped out of her dream when Gilbert suddenly shook his head slightly to the side in attempt to get her to notice that Ms. Stacy was asking her to spell a word. Not wanting to be the first to break their eye contact he didn't look away.
"Anne?" asked the slightly agitated teacher.
"Y-yes," shuddered Anne as she pulled her eyes from Gilbert's.
"Is there a reason for your absent mindedness, Anne, what is so distracting for you."
All of the students chuckled knowing why Anne was not focused.
"Gil-uhh," she cleared her throat in an attempt to also clear her mind, and pull herself together.
Josie Pye let out an menacing chuckle, she coughed then muttered, "Gilbert Blythe." It was very obvious to everyone as to what she said. Gilbert couldn't help the goofy grin that spread across his face, he knew he had to be blushing almost as much as Anne was in this moment. Although he didn't necessarily dislike the attention to him but as for Anne, he knew she utterly despised it, he knew she was embarrassed so he silently cursed Josie Pye as he came up with a plan in his mind. He came up with the best excuse but before he could say anything Anne spoke up.
