The Fraser's didn't have time to take in their new home as Amber announced they were going to dinner. She said it would be a celebration for her and Kazuto's upcoming marriage.
Of course, Mark sported an uncertain expression while he assessed the elephant in the car.
It was silent on the way to the restaurant and luckily for Jane, that gave her the slight opportunity to bask in the electric lights, packed streets after the suburbs of Tokyo. The teenage girl couldn't help it as she pressed her nose to the glass, she felt the cold shoot through her face as her eyes rolled backwards from attempting to catch the buildings roofs from the ground.
Nancy smiled at the innocent endeavour, to watch her daughter enjoy being a kid
-like she should- was a blessing. On the other hand, Mark saw no problem in maturing the mind before the body is fully developed. Despite Amber's playful mood, she was reasonable and serious when dangerous or stressful situations arose. While Nancy and Mark disagreed on Jane's development without a word exchanged, Kazuto silently shifted his hand over Amber's knee, quietly comforting his fiancé while her sister remained captured by the scene before her.
Secretly, Kazuto found it admirable the girl could still admire Japan as she did despite its reputation. He knew all too well as a younger and suspicious Amber tried any means necessary to avoid a first date with him.
There was this innate wonder sitting against her hazel orbs, pulling in each image as if a black hole.
"We're here!" Amber excitedly announced to the car, ignoring the side glance her mum gave the restaurant.
This definitely wasn't a place serving fish n' chips.
"What a pretty place" Jane remarked aloud, letting the words slip from her mouth as if a child.
It was adorned in a traditional Japanese style and covered in various ornaments which birthed a tranquil atmosphere. Jane felt calm as red filled her vision and calmed her senses.
She was so tired from acting.
"Why don't I go find a parking space and you go get settled?" Kazuto suggested, his whole demeanour calm as Nancy and Mark happily exited the car.
"You don't have to" Amber reassured.
"No, go be with your family".
With that heartfelt reply -still held in a monotone voice- Amber escorted her sister to the entrance.
"How is school?" Amber asked.
"Did you hear? I quit" Jane sighed.
Amber ceased her movements, losing track of the calm atmosphere as she shifted in front of Jane.
"Why? I thought you loved school? What about becoming part of the CCG?" Amber fretted.
"Dad's taken up a job with the Japanese branch, guess I'm stuck here with a one way ticket to Investigator school" Jane quipped sarcastically.
"Wait... you're staying?",
"Indefinitely-" Jane said before switching her mood instantly, "- Congratulations in the engagement, let's hope it lasts".
Despite what most would think, Amber understood her ambitious sister meant it sincerely.
"Me too".

"So where do you work Kazuto?" Mark began to interrogate.
"I'm a professor and the Ghoul Countermeasure Training Centre" he replied, managing to say the mouthful without tripping up.
Jane was thoroughly impressed but not for the same reason as her dad. Like a switch, his whole disposition changed from 'I'm contemplating where to bury your body' to 'welcome to the family brother'.
"Really, Jane here is hoping to study there",
"Is she?",
"Of course, no less for my daughter. She wants to manufacture anti-ghoul weaponry" Mark quoted.
"You want to work in the laboratories?" Kazuto asked, genuinely intrigued by the quiet teen.
"Yes, not because it's safer, it more interesting" Jane explained.
"Well, then I don't think the training centre is for you, after graduation you would immediately be named an investigator, I-",
"Don't be silly Kazuto-" Mark then warned, his eyes flickering to the man with a numb gaze, "- everyone has to start somewhere".
Kazuto watched as Jane's hand tightened around her skirt; safely suppressing her anger under the tablecloth.
"So where did you both meet?" Nancy asked, cutting through the thick atmosphere with a verbal knife.
"Kazuto was dropping off his niece to school and suddenly he would come every day. I found out eventually it was to come see me" Amber smiled as she whispered the secret.
"Aw, that's wonderful, just like out of a movie" Nancy gushed.
"If being suspicious your future boyfriend was a ghoul, sure, just like a movie" Amber giggled to heard her dad's own chuckles follow afterward.
"That's my girl" the older man commented.
"But it is good I wasn't, otherwise she would have had my head" Kazuto smirked to get jabbed in the side by his fiancé.
In all honesty, Jane found it adorable.
As dinner continued, Kazuto melted into conversation with Jane, she had read one of his favourite books to shreds and immediately hit it off. He also assimilated well into the family as they all exchanged embarrassing stories of an adolescent Amber.
It's comforting to know you're protected. Both Amber and Jane were trained in self-defends; Kazuto was once an investigator before a Professor and Mark couldn't go any further in his career.
Jane felt extremely safe as well as tired as they all clamoured into the car and Amber drove them home.

I'm wondering what you think of the family so far?
What do you think is the relationship between Jane's dad and herself?
What do you think of Jane's dream and how that'll turn out in the future?
I'm really curious.
But anyway, here's the chapter question:
What kagune would you have and what colour?
I like being fast and getting things done quick so I guess a Ukaku, much like Ayato's, would suit me best.
