Amber hadn't seen her sister since she'd arrived in Japan. Not a call was made or a message sent, she simply proceeded with her life pretending Jane hadn't been only a mile or two from her home.

However, pretending wasn't easy when your sister was sitting on the table beside you. With a thankful smile a handsome man pulled her chair and gestured for her younger sibling to sit before he placed her bag down beside them. Like Jane did when younger, Amber had dyed her hair blonde and chopped it her shoulders in the last month, making her nearly unrecognisable without looking closely.

The blonde took notice of her sudden invisibility and quickly used it to her benefit, hoping Jane wouldn't notice. After the Investigator had followed in their dad's footsteps something became distant between the two. Actually, as Amber sat there she realised that a rift had formed way before Jane willingly skipped her wedding.

She could remember her mother's words.

"Jane's in a rough place, it's best to leave her to her own thing and don't take anything to heart".

Rough time my arse, Amber growled internally before the couple began speaking.

"How far are you along now?" Arima asked, not noticing the blonde woman nearby jump slightly in acknowledgement of his words.

Why are they speaking English? And what does he mean by that?

"Four months, you can feel her fluttering about sometimes, like small kicks" Jane chuckled, her hand unconsciously cupping the bottom of her stomach.

Amber froze.

How far along? Four months. You can feel her.

"I'm sorry Miss Hayashi, but it appears that you're infertile. There are of course many alternatives ways to have a baby, however, I doubt you'll be able to naturally conceive".

Amber's hands clenched under the table.

"Your guy must be happy" Arima assumed.

"We're both excited, we're going to buy baby stuff next week, I can tell he's gonna go mad with all the pink. Knowing him, he'll have her wearing black" Jane chuckled.

"I can tell you're happy",

"Of course I am, in five months my baby girl will be in my arms",

"Will I... will I be able to see them" Arima asked reluctantly to both Jane and Amber's confusion.

"Why would you even ask that? Of course you will" Jane reassured with her hand placed securely over his own in comfort. Amber watched from the corner of her eye as her sister held his fingers tightly under her own.

For an instant, unlike Jane, Amber saw a a longing expression in the man's eyes masked by a bored expression.

"I don't know, I just thought you would never want me around them" Arima shrugged.

"You'll be Uncle Ki-" Jane chuckled,
"- don't ever think you're not part of my family because you are, you are my family. I don't know what I would ever do without you. You've always been the person to steer me in the right direction, to comfort me when I'm down and pull me back up when I can't by myself. Without you... I wouldn't be who I am today. so don't you ever think to leave me and if I've one day lost my mind and I ever consider giving you up, please please slap some sense into me".

"Thank you, Jane" He gratefully whispered before the woman stood up and embraced the Investigator's head.

He could hear her heartbeat and feel the rise and fall of her stomach.

"I love you, Kishou" she confessed, her emotions clearly platonic.

"Me too" Arima sighed before watching her pull away.

"Now, my friend-" she began with a clap, "- how am I going to tell my sister".

Amber peeled up at her mention.

"Your sister? I wasn't aware...",

"We aren't really on the best of terms, I guess it's my fault really. Ever since I came to Japan there seemed to be this rift between us, I did blame her once upon a time but we're not kids anymore. Plus, I want my child to meet their aunt and uncle on a good impression",

"It would be best to call her and meet up somewhere. Suddenly coming out of the blue pregnant wouldn't be the greatest" Arima chuckled.

"You know, even if she's just my sister, I'm scared",

"What's there to be scared of? If she knocks you down, know I'll be right behind you, just like you said".
