Uta arrived at Anteiku with Jane safely perched upon his arm, his body snuggling into his khaki parka as the cold wind scratched at her exposed skin. It was Yomo's birthday and Yoshimura thought to silently celebrate with a small gathering of Anteiku's family. The man
-of course- didn't appear like the kind to be thankful for such a day, however, the calming manager thought otherwise. Plus, there was much more to be gratefully acknowledged. When they finally entered the café both Investigator and ghoul caught the individual looks.
Nishiki was hopeful yet his eyes dulled the mysterious expression significantly.
Yoshimura was somewhat sullen while Uta pulled Jane's coat off her shoulders and draped it across his arm.
Koma and Irimi appeared much the same with sweet harmless smiles curling at their lips; they didn't yet know the news to come but Jane wouldn't think they would mind from the grins coating their features.
Touka and Yomo on the other hand... they couldn't fathom the pair or comprehend the notion before Uta uncharacteristically took Jane's hands into his own and blew warm air onto her cool, sensitive skin.
And Itori, well... she didn't like the covert dove in the slightest.
"It's great you could finally make it" Yoshimura greeted, his eyes shut closed despite the subtle smile.
"The roads are still a bit slippery" Jane chuckled.
"I understand, you should really be careful though", the mask maker acknowledged the manager's words and nodded his head with a quick dip.
"Do you mind if I could have a drink of tea?" Jane asked before Touka audibly scoffed. She didn't see the human point to the kitchen as she assumed the woman wanted them to prepare it.
"Not at all" Yoshimura allowed.
It was hard not to hide of the blush of embarrassment when the young teen realised Jane was going to make it herself. Still, she didn't like the Investigator one bit; the ghoul had a sneaking suspicion their was an ulterior motive behind Jane's loving smiles and adoring eyes.
While everyone else returned to their small huddles of conversation, Uta leaned idly against the café wall with knitted arms before a certain ghoul stood beside him.
"I see you made it through" the manager softly observed.
"Yeah... it's a girl".
Yoshimura's heart clenched.
"Congratulations, I understand the process can be traumatic",
"It was, but she's strong" Uta announced before a quirk of a smile graced his lips while he watched said human walk from the back kitchen. It almost appeared like the world stopped as she walked into the room.
"I know that look very well" Yoshimura sighed.
"What are you talking about?" The mask maker almost scoffed. He may have been an artist but the superficial and dream-like accounts of romance only made the ghoul internally gag in disgust.
"Despite what people might think there's always pain in the eyes at one point or another. Because you know one day they're gonna go somewhere you can't reach, you know it's only a matter of time-",
"I don't need your philosophical bullshit today-" Uta sighed heavily,
"- we are celebrating Yomo's birthday"."Yomo would rather this be a small gathering than a celebration",
