Jane's gut feeling was truly acting up, flaring to the point she nearly felt sick each time she walked into the CCG.

"Hey Jane, are you free after work?" Victor asked as he side-stepped beside a determined Jane, she heard the ghoul she took down in the 3rd would be fashioned into a new quinque for herself.

"Yeah" she answered on autopilot without her partner's realisation.

"Really? Because I need to talk to you about something important",

"That's good",

Victor released a deep sigh of relief, "good, but know that whatever happens I just care about you and I'm worried-",

"Sounds great".

Victor took in her reply for a few seconds before his hopeful expression soon disappeared and morphed into frustration.

"Are you ignoring me?... are you even listening to a word I'm saying... Jane! Jane!' Victor continuously asked in annoyance.
"I saw you last night, with that man" he instantly confessed to finally achieve a reaction, her eyes were wide with shock before she unconsciously stepped through the Rc cell detectors.

It stopped the entire CCG once the alarm blared against her ears, assaulting the drums of her mind. The sound forced her hands against her ears and left a pounding headache in her wake. Even Victor refused to move as Arima entered the ground floor of the main office.

With no context offered to the Investigator's idly standing in the room, the Special Class Investigator diffused security's paranoia and took Jane into his arms, securely placing her under his wing as her head throbbed.

"What the fuck is going on?".

After Arima lied to security, saying her coat still had remnants of ghoul blood not washed out, the men went on their merry way thinking no threat was present. However, the look in Arima's eyes set Jane on edge and fidgeting in her chair.

"Do... do you know what's going on?" Jane questioned, watching as the man hid his face between interlocked hands, his grey eyes fixed on the transparent table.

He didn't speak, Arima didn't want to speak because his theory was only a theory yet a strong one at that.

While investigators walked by the meeting room they'd occupied and made their way silently without another thought, Jane continued to press her good friend of ten years for answers. However, he refused to give a hint of a reply as he tried to deny any evidence of it ever being so.

Therefore, he took a deep breath, gave his biggest smile (that hardly could be considered one at any measure) and placed a hand upon Jane's.

"Don't worry, it's as I said: some ghoul blood was left over on your coat" he reassured to watch the female Investigator physically deflate with relief.

"Let's hope that never happens again" she sighed before finally leaving her friend to his work as he did for her. But that's when his mind continued to rumble with ideas.

How would he stop the detector going off every time she entered the CCG?

While he patrolled, exterminated and wracked up the papers, he finally decided his influence would aid in switching off the detector's alarm system as Jane stepped through.

It was strange how far Arima was willing to go to protect this girl, he had to admit that himself. Maybe it was the extended time his eyes would linger on her or the way he internally smiled while they fought together, he was proud of her and cared for her deeply whether that be as a friend, brother or lover.

But, lover wasn't an option, not with No Face and the sneaking suspicion he held deep in his gut.

"How was work today?" Uta asked, his chest hugged tightly against her back as she made him a coffee.

"I got a new quinque" she announced, gaging his reaction in the silence.

"Really? From what Kagune?" Uta proceeded with a soft tone.

"My first one is a koukaku, this one will be from a rinkaku",

"Sounds like a good day then" Uta replied to suddenly feel his girlfriend tense beneath him.
"Hey, what's wrong?".

"Something strange happened today, the Rc cell detectors went off when I walked through. Arima-" Uta raised his head from the crook of her neck at the name.

"Arima?" He echoed.

"Yeah... he was my dad's partner. Been my friend ever since" Jane explained before turning in his embrace at the loss of a reply.

The look in Uta's eyes was dark and empty, almost like he had reverted to the primitive state of a starved ghoul amongst his Kakugans.

"Hey, is everything alright?" She asked while cupping his face.

Her hand felt warm against his cheek and brought comfort in the quietest way.

"Yeah, perfect" he reassured before recalling what she said beforehand to that man's name.

"So... the detectors went off when I walked through but he reassured me it was just some ghoul blood on my coat" Jane awkwardly began, separating from the ghoul to drink from her mug of coffee.

Even though Arima had told her it was ghoul blood, something in Jane's gut persisted until she felt like stabbing period pain was assaulting her abdomen.

"Does that normally happen?".

Uta's question forced her mind to zero in on ten years of being CCG and when she finally came down to it, she could've been covered in any amounts of ghoul blood and the alarm still wouldn't sound. She recalled from school that Rc cells had to be in an active state to do so. So why did it go off in the first place if not for the blood?

"Yes, I can remember this one time it went straight off after I killed my first ghoul. It was pretty scary" Jane explained with a tight-lipped smile.

But it was a lie. A big massive lie because she didn't even know the truth.
