Chapter Twenty Five

Today was the day. Today Shawn and I announced our pregnancy and found out what our little one would be. We were so excited. Kasey had gone with us to our last ultrasound and had been carrying around that paper with her ever since. She also did our maternity shoot for us. Which we did in front of Shawn's set for the stage during his concerts. We decided to paint a microphone on my belly, it was big enough to see well now, and write "daddy's backup singer coming june 2020". In the one we decided to post, Shawn was kneeling down and pretending to sing to my stomach. Alessia even posed with us for a few. Dallas met up with us in New York. She and Alessia were going to be with us when we popped the balloon.

We were waiting backstage at Good Morning America when Shawn and I both decided to post our photos. Shawn wrote on his: "soon im going to have another touring partner. #babymendes".

I knew fans would eat that up. When I posted mine I said: "there's about to be a new singer in my life pretty soon. #babymendes will be on stage before we
know it!".

Fans ate that up too. Alessia was going to wait until we knew the gender before she posted anything.

"It's almost time for us to go on" Shawn says. He wrapped his hands around my waist.

"I'm nervous" I say.

"Don't be. I'm right here with you" He says. I smile at him. We got into place to walk out on stage. We were just waiting for Robin Roberts to call our name.

"He's currently touring with Alessia Cara, you guys know him, Shawn Mendes and his beautiful girlfriend, River Cane!" She says. We walk out hand in hand and greet her. Then, we sat down. "Well, it looks like I forgot to I introduce someone". She meant the growing baby in my belly.

"Well, maybe" Shawn says. She laughed.

"We're going to get to that pretty soon, but right now the people want to know how your tour is going" She says.

"It's going pretty amazing. We're about to head to Austraila to pick up the show after the new year starts and then I actually added some new dates and the show ends now in Louisville, Kentucky in 2020" He says.

"That's awesome. And, is Alessia Cara joining you as well?".

"Absolutely. I love her dearly. She has made this tour my dream tour. She truly is incredible" He says. It made my heart happy hearing him being so positive about Alessia.

"And, now you've got your gorgeous girlfriend on tour with you. How's that?". He puts his hand on my knee.

"Oh, my gosh. Every night when I perform, I'm doing it for her. She stands  in the shadows of each show, and she makes me better. Not just on stage, but in life too. I'm very very blessed" He says. I knew I was blushing.

"River, how is it for you?".

"It's wonderful. I don't really remember what I was doing before I started traveling with him and Alessia, but whatever it was, it doesn't compare to this" I answer.

"Now, Alessia Cara is your cousin, correct?".

"Yes. Yes, she is. We were pretty much raised as sisters. She's my bestfriend" I say.

"That's amazing. But, now I guess we should get to what this is really about today" She says. Shawn looks at me and flashes that famous smile. "Do you guys have any news for the world?".

Shawn blushes and looks at me then back to Robin.

"Well, my tour in about to get a little bigger, because we are currently expecting a baby due June 29th of 2020" He says. The live audience cheers.

"Congratulations! That is amazing news! How has the pregnancy been so far, River?".

"Actually, has been really good. I have some cravings and some morning sickness, but it really only happens when I wake up. During the show's, it doesn't bother me. I always say that's because the baby can hear their daddy's voice" I say. She smiles and so does Shawn.

"How did you find out, and how did you tell Shawn?". I laughed reminiscing about how that went down.

"We all found out together. Me, Shawn, and Alessia" I say. "They had a show in...Japan I think and the past couple weeks before I had been so sick, and my sister was actually the first to mention a pregnancy, so while Shawn and Alessia were doing the show, I took a test. I didn't realize that they would be coming back to the bus as soon as I went into the bathroom to take it, so Alessia was looking for me and opened up the bathroom door and I was holding the test and the results had just come up and it said positive and Alessia went to ask if I was pregnant and I didn't even let her finish the question before I just said 'I'm Pregnant'. It was quite the dat for us" I explain leaving out a few minor details.

"That is quite the story" She says. "We're going go have even more to add to the story when we come back".

During the commercial break, Alessia, Dallas, Shawn, and I all stood in the center of the studio with the balloon in between us. Dallas and I stood together and Shawn and Alessia did. Shawn and I were both in the middle.

"And were back with Shawn Mendes, River Cane, Alessia Cara, and Dallas Cane about to reveal something crazier than the pregnancy. The gender of baby Mendes! Any last guesses?".

"Dallas and I have been saying boy" Shawn says. "And if I guess right, I get ti pick the first name. If not, I pick the middle and vice versa".

"Alessia and I have been saying girl" I say.

"Well, on the count of three, we get to find out!" She says. " 1...2...3!".

Shawn and I both jab our needles into the balloon. As soon as I realize the color, I jump into Shawn's arms. I feel Dallas and Alessia's arms wrap around us too.

"There you have it America...Baby Mendes is going to be a beautiful baby girl!".

Any guesses/suggestions on the name of Baby Mendes?
