Peter's class piled out of the elevator after the brief ascent to the cafeteria floor, and walked down the hallway. Peter turned to go into the staff cafeteria, because that's where he would always eat if he wasn't In the penthouse, but turned back when he noticed that McKenna wasn't going to stop for that room.
He saw Ms. Michelle staring at him disapprovingly, probably thinking that he was going to try to sneak away or something of the sort.
He caught up with Ned right as they reached the entrance to the cafeteria, and they waited in the clump of people that was their group for McKenna to let them in.
"Alright, Midtown! Now it's lunch time! Use your temporary ID cards to pick out your lunch from the different stations around! Keep in mind that the budget on the cards is only $15, so you can't go crazy. Alright?" She said, and when the group assented she let them enter.
The cafeteria was the size of a food court, with scattered seating in the central area and various types of food stands all around. Ned seemed to be in heaven because of all of the different options, but Peter was used to it. This cafeteria was slightly flashier than the staff cafeteria area because it was for guests, but the staff cafeteria had superior food options, if not slightly less of them to choose from.
Peter's access card let him buy anything without a limit, and he always needed a lot of food because of his enhanced metabolism. It wouldn't let him get drugged, but it also costed Peter a fortune.
He piled a bowl of pasta, a slice of pizza, a salad (Pepper was always nagging him about having to eat healthier), a burrito, and last two bottles of soda onto his tray. He rung it all up at the self-service counter for a total of $55.99. With a swipe of his card, the cost turned to zero and Peter was on his way to save a table for Ned.
Ms. Michelle then approached him with a sour look on her face. "Peter, our tour guide told us that we could only spend $15. That's obviously so much more," She said, pointing to his tray.
"Well, that's because-" Peter started, before he was interrupted.
"It doesn't matter. That's a third strike. Go back to the bus." She said, giving him a glare.
"But-" Peter said, before giving up. He grabbed the tray and stood up, before he heard FRIDAY speak from the speakers hidden in the corners of the room.
"You do not have authority over Mr. Parker."
