Clarke sat up on the bed, blue hospital gown on as her legs dangled over the edge. Her hair was a mess, but Murphy saw past it. Gently brushing her hair from her face as she huffed, her eyes lazily drifting up to meet his."You heard the nurse, the doctor will be in soon." He reassured her. She huffed, forcefully pushing air through her lips to try and ease the pain.
"Hey, what's up mama?" Octavia's voice cooed as the door creaked open.
"We haven't seen the doctor yet.." she huffed, her hands tightly clenching the bed.
"Do you know if the baby is.."
"The nurse thinks he's fine." Murphy nodded.
"Good, I knew she was a fighter." Octavia Groaned, the two hoping for a different gender and in a seemingly endless battle.
"Guys. In pain." Clarke groaned, drawing the attention back to her.
"Right." Octavia hummed as she walked over and sat beside her just as quickly as the door opened again.
"Mrs. Griffin?" The doctor cooed.
"It's miss." Murphy insisted, "Where is Dr. Griffin."
"She's been called into an emergency, I'm your doctor this evening."
"An emergency? Her daughter is in here!"
"I'm afraid she's unable to be here." The doctor insisted, brushing last Murphy and standing before Clarke. "How are you feeling?" Clarke grabbed the doctors hand, clearly in pain.
"Something is so wrong." Clarke groaned.
"Okay, I'm going to have to ask your friends to leave so I can do a few tests."
"No, she's in pain. I'm staying." Murphy demanded, Clarke sighing as her head turned to that of her beloved friend.
"I'm fine, Murphy." She smiled, "go."
He seemed hesitant, his eyes drifting from her to the doctor. But a final reassuring nod from Clarke was enough to loosen his stance. He got up, drifting back to her before exiting the room. As the door closed behind him, he felt so wrong. As if he just abandon her when she needed him. He let out a final breath, sitting over by Octavia in the waiting room.
"Any word from him?" Murphy sighed as he sat down opposite her.
"Not much, he's studying a lot." She responded, not maintaining eye contact as she stared at her hands.
"He still doesn't know?"
"Of course not, you think Clarke would let me live if I had?" She groaned, slumping back in her chair. "It's not right. He deserves to know."
"I know but, her heart is in the right place" Murphy shifted. "She doesn't want him to drop everything and come running back to her."
"It's his kid too, Murphy. He's gonna be crushed when he finds out"
"I know but.. she's thinking about what's best for him."
"You can't change my mind Murphy. It's wrong."
"Awe, come on Aunty Octy." Murphy smiled, antagonising his friend.
"Don't day that, it sounds like I'm an old octopus." Octavia protested, Murphy erupting in laughter as he limped back in his chair. For a brief second Clarke and how she felt left his mind, it wasn't until a flood of doctors came rushing through the halls that his mind snapped back.
Murphy got up, Octavia following suit as the two marched into the room where Clarke was. "Clarke.." Murphy howled as he stood in the open door, his eyes scanning the empty room as a doctor caught his attention. "Hey, where's the girl who was in here?" Murphy groaned, having taken his eyes off of Clarke for no more than a minute.
"Griffin?" The doctor repeated. "She was just taken out to a private room."
"Where?"
"I'm sorry, she can't have visitors right now."
"What?"
"Sorry." The doctor responded, walking away and leaving them in the dark.
