Chapter 36 - They Know

It was later the afternoon and Maya was at the Matthews keeping Auggie busy.
Cory and Topanga were out and Riley had something she needed to do with Lucas so Maya suggested that she'll take care of Auggie for awhile.
Not thinking straight she realized she hasn't even told the seven year old about her new relationship with Josh.

"Auggie," Maya said as she sat down next to the little boy.
"I have something to tell you Buddy. Me and Josh have decided to give us a try. We..."
"Are dating?" Auggie asked and Maya smiled as she brushed a curl out of her eyes.
"Yeah we are. How do you feel about it?" Maya asked.
"Are you my aunt now?" Auggie asked.
"No Buddy. But... " Maya said as she pulled Auggie on her lap.
"You can call me what you want. If it's Aunt Maya or just Maya, either is fine," Maya said.
"How are you going to tell Riley and Mommy and Daddy?" Auggie asked.
"They know. But I wanted to tell you myself. Riley isn't really happy and I'm giving her some space. But we can still talk to each other and I'll come by anytime you want. We can hang out, talk whatever you want. And when me and Riley figure everything out we can see where that goes," Maya said.
"We're okay?" Auggie asked and Maya hugged him.
"We're just fine," Maya said.

"This day was EXHAUSTING!"

Josh slops down on the couch and Maya smiles as she hands him a glass of orange juice.

"What happened to you then?" Maya asked as she sat down next to him.
"I went to a few friends while you were hanging with your mother," Josh said.
"Hanging with my mother? Oh no Josh. I didn't do that. I told my mother and my friends about us," Maya said and Josh looked at Maya.
"Everyone?" Josh asked.
"Even Auggie. Everyone is really excited and Isadora said to tell you I have friends who don't take nonsense. Auggie's reaction was the cutest of them all. Wanted to know am I his aunt now," Maya said and both laughed.
"How did your mother take it?" Josh asked.
"Really good. She knows about you. The two people I've probably spoken about the most are you and Shawn Hunter. She's ready excited," Maya said.
"At last someone who isn't acting like it's the end of the world," Josh said.
"Yeah Rucas are extremely mad because everyone reacted to us like it was high time and to the pregnancy like it is the biggest mistake in the world. If your niece wanted any other reason to hate me, our friends gave it to her," Maya said as Josh threw his arm around Maya's shoulder.
"Well I'm glad that is done with. So they know and reacted good. What's more to ask?" Josh asked.

"That you guys stop," Riley said as she ran past the two making Maya sigh.
"What is it Riley? What is your problem this time?" Maya asked as she put her hand on Josh's leg making Riley's eyes widened.
"One week. One freaking week and you guys are acting like a couple. Does your..."
"Not playing that card. My mother is really happy for me," Maya said.
"I don't believe it," Riley said and went to her room.
"Looks like we are causing some huge wafes," Josh said as Maya laughed.
"Well she can do what she wants. I'm happy and that's all that matters for me," Maya said.
