Chapter 38 - What Happened

It was an hour later.
Maya heard more footsteps coming closer and Auggie closed his eyes.
Maya takes a deep breathe before she took a look at Topanga.

"Maya?"

Ten minutes earlier.

Cory and Josh were standing outside of the bakery while they were waiting for the policemen to give them information.
Josh had taken Maya's text serious and now he was waiting to hear if the girl he loves is really okay.
The policeman came out with two guys and another one directed Josh and Cory to come.

They closely and quietly went into the bakery to find no other surprises.
But neither did they find the girls and Auggie.
Josh looks at the basement door which is open and immediately goes down.
He finds the door to one of the storage rooms wide open and doesn't know what to do.

"Maya?"
"Topanga?" Cory said and his wife immediately came out embracing her husband.

Auggie looked out from behind the container immediately seeing Josh and running to him.
Josh picked up the seven year old as he was releaved to see him.
Maya came out smiling that everyone was okay.
Josh put the boy down so he could go to his father before facing the blonde girl.
She smiled and he took her in his arms.
She let out a breathe and is safe.

"Thank goodness. Are you guys okay?" Cory asked.
"Yeah thanks to Maya. She immediately took control. Grabbed both me and Auggie running to the basement and locking the door. Thank you Maya," Topanga said.
"What happened?" Josh asked.
"Gun shots. I think it was a break-in," Maya said.
"I'm just so glad you guys are okay," Josh said before pulling Maya close to him.

This was enough of a drama te keep us going for years, Maya thought to herself.
Thank goodness Josh took her call serious.
Well serious enough.
Whether he thought it was an emergency at the start she won't know.
