Getting back to work was hard. It was a Wednesday, but it felt like a Monday after a long weekend. You slumped in your chair unable to focus long enough to even open up Animate. You stared at the abstract background of your computer blankly a tab open on your other monitor. After you stared your wallpaper done you decided to take care of some things in the office so you could leave early.
As you reached home it was awfully quiet meaning Shorter must have left. You reached into your pocket to see where he had run off to. The phone rung a few times before Shorter answered sounding out of breath.
"Are you okay?" Your heart had begun to beat fast already as you waited for him to calm and answer.
"Don't worry, I'm coming to get you so be ready." With that he hung up giving no further explanation. You made a quick change into something more casual.
Shorter was there in no time his usual jacket and white t-shirt gone.
Damn. What is he looking so good for?
"Are you ready to go?" He grabs your hand and leads you out not really waiting to hear your answer.
"Where are we going?" You ask.
"To a place you've always wanted to go." You look over at Shorter confused. You begin to think of all the places you wanted to go to.
"We're going...overseas?"
Shorter chuckles before answering, "I wish, but no not right now at least."
"Not right now at least?" You repeat raising your eyebrow.
"Sometime in the future now sit back and enjoy the ride."
After nearly an hour of driving to the next city over a building came into view. It looked like a small business, but the parking lot seemed a bit full. The sign read that there was an arcade on one side of the building and on the other there was an escape room. Your eyes lit up as you walked closer to the building. Shorter admired you wanting you to keep that smile on your face.
"Shorter you're literally the best." As you rushed in like an eager child you saw Ash and Eiji sitting together as well as Sing.
"Hey Y/N!" Eiji stood to hug you. Ash and Sing gave a silent wave.
"It's been awhile, I thought you were going back?"
"Ah I won't be going back just yet." Eiji clarified.
"I'll miss you when you leave," you pout.
"Here take my phone number and stuff so we can keep in touch. Maybe someday I can visit you," you add giving him your information.
Shorter comes back and motions for all of you to follow him. They lady in charge led you to the room and explained the rules. She was gone, the door was locked, and the time was ticking. Everyone began searching different corners of the room. Ash managed to find the first clue which he read out loud for everyone to ponder. You were to look for an object that fit the description.
Sing's facial expressions changed once he remembered something he had picked up. He grabbed the object again and read the next clue. Everyone seemed to be working perfectly together and after around 30 or so minutes you had the answers to get out.
"The door won't budge." Sing jiggles the handle. Everyone watched as he tried to pry it open.
"Maybe we didn't really solve it? Should we look over eveything again?" You suggest. Everyone flies threw the puzzles once more the only answer being the one you already have.
"Let me try the door." Shorter moves to jiggle the hand, but even him pulling it nothing happened.
"Don't tell me we're still locked in here?" Ash sighs leaning against the desk.
"Looks like it." Shorter replies.
"Well do we just wait until our time is up or try to get someones attention?" Eiji walks over to the door and begins knocking. No one seems to come so you take over and let Eiji sit with Ash. Still no one comes, so everyone decides to just sit and wait for time to pass.
You sit on the other side of the desk and your hand comes in contact with something under the table. You jump at the coolness, but touch it again ripping it from the tap holding it. Another key.
"Guys!" You hold it up in your hand and everyone seems confused. You toss the key to Shorter who was already standing near the door for him to try. This time the door opens with ease. Everyone looks at each other dumbfounded at what just happened. The lady greeted you once again with your finishing time that came close to an our.
"Let's get drinks after that one." Shorter says making everyone nod in agreement. Hanging out with Shorter and the other guys was fun and you were lucky to have Shorter.
"Shorteerr," you slur.
"Yes baby?" He holds you closer to his body to help you walk.
"I love you, even if you do a lot of criminal activities."
"I know this is the fifth time you've told me love." Shorter smiles kissing the top of your head.
"Yeah, but like you need to know more than once!" You put one finger up in Shorter's face.
"Okay then tell me more."
"I love you" you say once more, but this time in Chinese.
"I love you too" Shorter chuckles as he leads you up to the apartment.
