It was hard trying to focus on the project in front of you. There were so many things going on through your mind.

How was it even possible for him to be a gang leader? The little time you've known Shorter he seemed to be a goofy and chill guy. The one who liked to cuddle a little too much. The guy that liked to call you before you went to sleep. That just didn't sound like someone in a gang, but it was all true.

It wasn't a lifestyle you wanted to be apart of, but Shorter has kept that seperate from you. So far you haven't been put in a dangerous situation except for the party. That, in the end, was Aubrey's fault for taking you there in the first place. If Shorter and Ash hadn't been there who knows what would've happened to you.

You needed to get your mind off of it. Soon it would be your lunch break in 10 minutes, so you decided to text Aubrey for a quick pop-in lunch date.

"Hey whore, whats the situation?" Aubrey sat at the table sliding the bag to you

"Hey whore, whats the situation?" Aubrey sat at the table sliding the bag to you.

"It's Shorter...h-he's..in a gang," you leaned in to whisper the last bit.

"Oh my god! Are you fuckin serious?" Aubrey whisper shouted. All you could do was nod and slump on the table.

"Why do I have the worst luck with guys. Mikey was a predator and Shorter is a gang leader." You sighed opening up the box and shoving a slice of pizza into your mouth.

"Shorter is still better. You can't even compare that with Mikey."

"But Shorter has probably killed people, and he's like really good friends with Ash who has no problem doing it!"

"Just because their friends doesn't mean anything. You don't know how he ended up in that life maybe it was his only choice,"

"Shorter seems to be a nice guy who wouldn't put you in harms way." She added.

"Im going to talk to him when I get off..."

"Good luck girly I better get going my break will be ending soon."

"Tell me about it later." With that Aubrey left in a rush.

You made your way back to you work area greeting the others from your team. Time flew as you worked through your newest project. Once you started something you were absorbed in it. Your phone started to ring. You looked at the caller ID only to see Shorter's name.

You checked the time and you should have left awhile ago. It was just you and the other guy that also tends to work late. You answered the call and proceeded cleaning up your area.

"H-hello." You frantically moved to put away your sketches.

"Hey are you off yet? I've been waiting quite a bit and I need to take care of something later on." You shuddered at what that could possibly mean.

"Yeah, um I'll be home in a few.." without hearing anything else from him you hung up.

Grabbing your tablet you left and arrived a little to quickly for your liking. Shorter was standing against the wall of your building holding his helmet.

"Hey, you okay?" He questioned.

"I'm fine...just work." You continued walking up to your place.

"I know you're not, I don't know why I even asked. I guess I'm just worried about you and what happens after tonight." You stop and turn at the top of the steps.

"You're right I'm not, but before we continue please come in." You unlock your door and let Shorter in first.

"I never wanted this to happen." He spoke again.

"So you were going to continue not telling me? For how long? Until something serious happened?" You weren't that upset he never lied, but not saying anything is just as bad.

You didn't fully understand the situation, but you wanted to. With Shorter you've had nothing but a good time. He deserves a chance to explain himself.

"I didn't tell you because I was only thinking of myself. With you it's not about who's fighting who, or what we have to protect. What gang I have to lend a hand to. I got to be just Shorter with a love interest,"

"You didn't know about me, or what I did which made me want to spend time with you more. Most girls that live in our scene would be intrigued with me, or just avoid me. I just wanted someone who wasn't afraid, or just in it to gain something." Shorter took his sunglasses off.

"I guess it was too much to ask, huh? I understand if you don't want to continue seeing me. I'm not telling you this so you'll feel sorry either." Your eyes met his and he gave a half smile before standing up.

"I can't say that I understand now I've never lived that life. I'm afraid of what could happen if I decide to continue seeing you. There's no way of keeping me seperate from what you do. I don't want to have to sneak around and hide with you." You stated.

"I'm not gonna sit here and tell you that I'll protect you no matter what. Because there are times when someone can't be there or show up at the right time. I couldn't put you in that danger." Shorter began walking out tucking his helmet under his arm.

You watched as he left and once he was gone you finally relaxed. The part of your day that you were most worried about was over. You still had some things to think about.
