"Hey. Sorry I haven't been here in a while. Something... happened, and Zelda wanted to... to keep an eye on me, I guess. Anyway, I got kicked out of Gerudo Town, basically. Don't ask."
"You're right, you have been gone a while."
"Yeah," Wind put in. "I've been here like, four times since the last time you were here."
Wild smiled and ruffled Wind's hair. Wind laughed and ducked away. Wild sighed and walked into the camp. They weren't in a forest anymore, and instead, the camp was in a grassy plain."This place reminds me of Central Hyrule. At least there's no giant death machines here."
"What are you talking about?"
"Guardians. Those are the worst."
"No idea what you're talking about."
"Good. You shouldn't have to deal with those things."
Wind tilted his head a little, then skipped over to the others.Wild just stood where he was, looking out into the empty field. He spotted some ruins in the distance, only barely visible. The grass was gently swaying around him, reminding him of his own world.
"What's that in the distance?"
"Looks like ruins."
"Really? I've never seen any here. Are there any in your Hyrule?"
"Yup. Lots."
"I think your world is starting to blend in. Exciting."
"What do you mean?"
"Well, when a new one of us comes, his world starts blending into this one, so you'll start seeing monsters and stuff from their place here."
"Oh. Well, I'm not looking forward to that."
"Why not?"
"... There's some stuff that... that is... well, terrifying."
"Well, we all have scary stuff."
"No, not just scary- ah, forget it. Nevermind. I don't want to talk about it."
"Okay."He couldn't help but dread the guardians coming to this place. Knowing his luck, they definitely would. This was his safe place, a place where he wouldn't have to deal with the constant reminders and memories of his journey and his failure. A peaceful place. A place where he could just relax and take a break from everything.
He turned back to camp and headed over to the others. Twilight was setting up a cooking thing over the fire. Wild walked over and squatted next to it.
"Can I help you cook?"
"Sure."
Wild smiled and waited until Twilight was finished, then he took some ingredients out his bag and put them in the pot. He hummed a little tune while he waited. When it finished, he took the dish out and showed it off happily."That looks delicious."
He closed his eyes and smiled brightly at Twilight's praise. He held it out and invited Twilight to try it, and he did.
"Mmm! That's amazing!"
Wild put the plate down and signed,
"Thanks."Wind ran over and asked,
"Can I try it?"
"No, there's only so much."
"Sure. Take some. I have a lot more stuff."
"Thanks!"
Wind took some food and immediately said, with his mouth full,
"Yum. Tasty!"
"Thanks. I didn't realize that everyone would like it so much."
"Really? You must have eaten this before. Why wouldn't you think we'd like it?"
"I guess I never really stopped to notice the taste. I didn't have much time.""Why don't you have some, then?"
"Oh... I'm not hungry."
"I just realized, in all the time you've been here, I've never seen you eat."
Wild laughed. It was kind of forced, but the others didn't seem to notice.
"Yeah. What's up with that?"
"Nothing. Nothing at all."Twilight looked at him for a moment.
"Really, though. What's going on?"
"I... I'm never really hungry."
Wild crossed his arms and looked away. He sat down, suddenly feeling too tired for all of this. He sighed."Hey, Wind, it looks like Warrior wants you."
"Oh, really? Lemme go see."
Wind ran off, leaving Twilight and Wild alone.
"You look like you haven't eaten recently. Tell me, have you?"
"Yeah."
"Really?"
"Yes."
There was a long silence after that. The two just looked at each other for a minute before Wild signed,
"...no. I've been busy. Rebuilding an entire kingdom is hard."
"Yes, I understand that, but it doesn't mean you don't have to take care if yourself."
"Hyrule is more important than me right now. I can survive not eating for a couple days."
"Yes, but not much longer than that."
"I know. I'm not stupid."Wild stood up, annoyed by the conversation, and he walked away. He wandered into the field and began cutting the grass with his sword. He watched as it floated away, wishing he could do that. To just float away as if nothing mattered. But he could only wish. And wishing did nothing. He sighed and kept walking, not really caring where he ended up.
He spotted a bokoblin and decided that he'd fight it, so he jogged over to it. It swung at him immediately once it noticed him. He swung back, successfully hitting it.
He quickly grew tired, wanting only to sit down for a moment. However, he wasn't done with the bokoblin yet, so he couldn't stop now. It was getting hard to swing his sword, to the point where the bokoblin was landing more hits than he was.
It was starting to remind him of the memory where he died, except this time it was much stupider. This time, he'd die to a freaking bokoblin. He shouted for help, but he doubted anyone would hear him. He wouldn't mind. If someone did come, it would be rather embarrassing.
Luckily, he killed the bokoblin before it killed him. He fell to his knees, trying to catch his breath. Why did he get exhausted by a fight with a bokoblin? Maybe not eating enough was affecting him. Oh well. There was more important things to worry about.
