"Link? Link, where are you? You've been gone for a while. You- oh, good. There you are."

Zelda spotted Link sitting on the ground, resting his head on a rock. He seemed to be asleep. Silly.

She walked over to him and tapped his shoulder. He didn't respond, so she shook him a little. Still no response. She shook him a little harder. No response.

He was freezing. How long had he been asleep? She walked around to his other side and saw something she didn't want to see.

Blood.

She gently moved him so she could see where he was bleeding, and she gasped at what she saw.

An ancient arrow was stuck in his neck. It was covered in blood.

It couldn't have been an accident. It was too deep. And the position of the arrow.

She had to move him.
She tried to pick him up, but he was too heavy. A cold, dead weight. Literally.

She pulled his sword out of its sheath and stuck it in the ground for support.

●●●

This was not what she expected. In fact, she hadn't expected anything from putting a sword in the ground.

She was standing in front of a group of people in a completely different spot than where she had been.

"Um... hello."
One of them turned to face her and said,
"Oh, hey Zelda. What's up with Wi- I mean, Link?"

She looked down at him. They couldn't see the arrow. She put the sword down and turned Link so that the arrow was visible.
By now, they had all turned to look, and when they saw the arrow, several of them gasped.

There was a child, who immediately ran over. He put his hands on Link's shoulders.
"W-why is he so cold? Is he..."
He fell to his knees, crying. He ripped the arrow out of Link's neck and held it up like he was about to stab his leg with it.

Zelda's eyes widened and she reached down and grabbed the arrow from him. She turned it off and tossed it to the side.
"Those arrows mean instant death. Don't do that."
The child looked up at her, tears in his eyes.
"So he is dead? Again?"
She nodded grimly.

The kid stood up and ran away, crying.
Another person stepped up. He simply put his hand on her shoulder.

"So, I'm guessing this was on purpose."
She nodded again.
There were so many questions she wanted to ask, but this wasn't the time.
"I-I don't know why he did this. This is the second time. Why would he do it again?"

"It's my fault!"
She looked up and saw the one with the coat on his knees.
"This is my fault... I'm sorry..."

"Your fault?"

Zelda pulled Link's sword out of the ground and held it out.

"You did this to him?"

No answer.
Only sobbing.

"You wanted him

dead.

Well, you got your wish.

And now you get payback.

What
you

deserve."
