It was Saturday morning, and Richie Tozier was laying in bed with the love of his life wrapped tightly in his arms. The two had been married for about 5 months now, Richie had popped the question almost immediately after they got together. It was quick, Eddie knew that, but they had both technically waited 27 years so they felt it was time. They were both happier than they'd ever been before.

"Richie?" Eddie looked up from his spot in Richie's arms to make eye contact, and Richie looked down at Eddie with a kiss on his forehead.

"Yes my love?"

"I was wondering if we could talk about that adoption center again... the one I showed you last week? I know you said we weren't ready but-"

"I don't know Eddie..." Richie interrupted, suddenly looking very somber. Richie never even let Eddie finish getting his words out about adopting a kid. He had no idea why, he knew Richie would be a great father and Richie loved Ben and Beverly's kids.

"Richie you never know." Eddie huffed in exasperation, getting up and out of Richie's arms. "Having a family is important to me..."

"Why do we have to rush things?" Richie shot back, causing Eddie to laugh in frustration.

"Rush? You proposed to me a month after we got back from Derry!"

"I'm just not ready to talk about this!"

"Why not Richie?! This is our life! You can't just run away from it!" Eddie looked at him with angry eyes, his nose scrunched up like it always was when he got mad. Richie didn't want Eddie to be mad at him, of course he wanted to have kids. He was just...

"Scared..." Richie muttered.

"What?" Eddie's face quickly turned to confusion.

"I-I'm scared..." Richie forced out, his voice breaking. He hated being scared. All he ever was as a kid was scared, he lived his entire life scared and he couldn't stop. He was sick of being scared.

"What are you scared of Richie?" Eddie asked, softness and concern back in his voice as he sat himself down next to his husband again. Richie didn't answer at first, so Eddie slid his hand under Richie's, intertwining their fingers. He brought Richie's hand to his lips, kissing his knuckles softly.

Richie relaxed at Eddie's touch, and turned to him with his eyebrows knit, his lips curving down. Eddie could see the fear and sadness in his eyes. He just didn't understand why.

"What if... what if I'm a bad dad?" Richie said, his voice so hushed Eddie barely heard him. "My dad was the worst to me Eddie! Both my parents were shit alcoholics and before I came back to Derry, I was turning out the same way!" Richie felt tears boiling over onto his cheeks. "What if I'm just like my dad?!" He cried.

Eddie took Richie in his arms as he cried, stroking his long hair and shushing his cries. He cupped Richie's face and turned it upwards so they were eye to eye, only inches separating them.

"Richie, you are nothing like your father." Eddie spoke slowly, making sure every word sunk deep into Richie's mind. "You are your own person, you're funny, you're inappropriate, you care about your friends more than anyone, and you're a lover. You convinced the hypochondriac little boy with asthma and a deathly fear of his own sexuality to fall in love with you. Because that's how good of a person you are. There is absolutely no way you could be a bad father. You're going to be such a good dad Richie, I'll be fighting for equal love from the damn kid."

Richie was sobbing now, but not from fear. He was clutching the back of Eddie's shirt and crying because he loved Eddie so much. Eddie was always the one to alleviate his fear, and that's what he always forgot. As long as Eddie was there, nothing could go wrong.

"Let's do it." Richie wiped his face in Eddie's shirt, causing Eddie to cringe but he let it go. "Let's adopt a fucking kid." He grinned.

Eddie broke out into a smile, pulling Richie up and kissing him. Richie kissed back, wrapping both arms around Eddie's waist and pulling Eddie into him. Eddie pulled away, the tips of their noses still touching.

"I love you." Eddie whispered, connecting their lips again and grinning into the kiss.

"I love you more. Let's go get the best kid out there."

"It's not that simple Rich." Eddie laughed, pulling his husband into a tight hug and kissing his forehead. "But we're gonna do it."
