Richie sat in the waiting room, tapping his foot against the tile rhythmically, annoying all the people around him he was sure. Eddie was getting his wisdom teeth out, and after a good deal of screaming from Mrs. K, Richie had convinced her to let him take Eddie. Now, he waited for Eddie to come out of surgery and for some reason he was getting really worried. His mind raced with the most far fetched thoughts it could think of. What if something went wrong? What if Eddie woke up during surgery? What if he didn't wake up after? What if, what if, what if. But what kind of friend would Richie be if he didn't worry, right? Although, he never worried about any of his other friends this way-

"Richie Tozier?" A female voice called out, cutting through the silence of the waiting room and stopping Richie's thoughts. Eddie was awake.

Richie rushed back to Eddie, passing the nurse quickly and going into the room. Eddie was in a chair, getting one last examination and talk from the doctor. The minute Richie walked in, Eddie looked up and broke out into a huge grin. Even with a mouth full of bloodied cotton, he was still the cutest person Richie had ever seen.

"Richie!" He cried excitedly, his voice muffled. "My best friend!"

The dentist shushed him with a laugh and finished the examination, then went over to Richie. "He'll be like this for a little bit, loopy and out of it. He might get sad or really tired too, it's just the medicine."

Richie nodded, going over to Eddie. He was going to make some joke about the whole situation, but as soon as he was in arms reach, Eddie wrapped his arms tightly around Richie's waist and pulled him close. Richie's mind went completely blank.

"Hey Eds, let's get you home." Richie helped him up, and Eddie didn't let go of him.

"I love it when you call me that." Eddie giggled, relying on Richie as they walked out.

"I thought you hated when I called you Eds." Richie looked at him with a smile as he helped Eddie into the passenger seat.

"I lied." Eddie giggled, hugging him again and almost causing Richie to fall on top of him into the car. Richie couldn't help but blush at being so close to him, but Eddie was so out of it he probably didn't even notice.

Richie got in the drivers seat, and immediately Eddie's hand was on his knee. Richie's heart fluttered and he started driving. He knew Eddie was just out of it, he wasn't flirting with Richie.

Richie got Eddie home and saw that Sonia wasn't home. She was probably out stocking up to keep Eddie locked inside for the next week. He got Eddie inside and up to his bed, and as he layed Eddie down he felt the smaller boy's arms wrap around him and Richie felt himself being pulled into the bed. Eddie pulled Richie down next to him and cuddled close to him. Richie felt the blush creep up his neck again as he held Eddie close.

"Richie" Eddie whispered and looked up at him, "Can I tell you a secret?"

"Sure Eds, but you don't have to whisper. It's just us."

Eddie giggled and pulled himself up, his breath hitting Richie's neck as he got closer to whisper in Richie's ear. Richie shivered slightly, he had no idea why he felt this way around Eddie, and even he didn't believe that they were just friendly feelings.

"I like you." Eddie whispered, holding onto Richie to hold himself up. Richie's eyes went wide and he turned to look at Eddie. "I like you so much, I like your big glasses and your freckles." Eddie poked Richie's cheeks, "and I like your hugs and your jokes."

Richie couldn't describe what he was feeling. He felt like he was flying. He hadn't understood how he felt about Eddie until hearing these words, these perfect words. He had been longing for Eddie to say them for months and didn't even realize. But then Richie remembered, Eddie probably didn't mean this. He was on so much medicine he was probably just saying it. Richie pushed away the sadness at the thought of it not being real and just hugged Eddie close, rubbing small circles on the boy's lower back until he felt Eddie doze off in his arms. He had to know if Eddie meant it.

a week later

Richie knocked on Eddie's door as he had done every day for the past week, a pint of ice cream in his hands. Eddie opened it and grinned.

"Hey Eds, today's flavor is strawberry." Richie grinned back and handed him the pint. Eddie laughed and took it, opening it and grabbing a spoon.

"How's your mouth?" Richie asked as he sat on the couch next to Eddie.

"All better, thanks to Doctor Tozier and his daily ice cream visits." Eddie giggled and Richie watched closely, noticing for the first time how Eddie's nose and all his freckles scrunched up when he laughed, and his curls shook down in his face.

"Eddie?" Richie asked, looking at him and Eddie could see he was serious. "The day you got your wisdom teeth out... you kept hugging me and touching me and cuddling with me... and then you whispered to me that you had a crush on me."

"Oh-" Eddie looked down at his hands.

"Is it true Eddie?"

"Rich..." Eddie didn't look up, his voice was very quiet now.

"Please... I need to know. I've been torturing myself thinking about this for the past week, wondering if you meant it or if you even remembered and trying to figure out how I felt-"

Richie was cut off by the feeling of Eddie's small hands on either side of his face and their lips being pushed together. Richie got over his initial shock and let his eyes close, melting into the kiss. He wrapped his arms around Eddie's waist, they kissed softly again and again. Eddie's lips tasted like strawberry. Each time, one of them pulling away and the other chasing more. Eventually, they pulled away and both were bright red and smiling.

"It's true." Eddie giggled, and Richie laughed in relief before pulling him in for another strawberry kiss.
