The Losers all sat in a circle in Ben's basement. After Richie had complained through an entire movie how bored he was, they decided to play truth or dare. Richie got sort of pale at the idea, his hands clamming up, but his boredom got the best of it and he assumed no one in the group would ask that question. He took his assumed spot next to Eddie, wrapping his arm around the boy's neck and messing up his hair.
"Richie! Stop that." Eddie huffed and shoved Richie off, a grin tugging at his lips as he fixed his hair. Richie noticed and couldn't help but grin too.
What both boys didn't know was that the group had planned to play truth or dare all along. They had a plan, they all knew Richie and Eddie had it bad for each other. Beverly told them she couldn't stand the flirty looks and secret smiles anymore, and they all agreed. So their plan was to make Richie and Eddie kiss by the end of the night.
After a few pointless dares, such as Richie daring Bev to take her shirt off or Bev daring Eddie to eat a walnut because she didn't believe he was allergic (he wasn't), it was Richie's turn.
"Make it good losers." Richie laughed and sat forward to accept his fate.
All the Losers grinned at each other. "Kiss Eddie."
Shit. Richie's mind went blank as he searched desperately for a witty response, or any response to get him out of this.
"W-What? No." Eddie laughed nervously.
Richie looked at him and saw Eddie's eyes were just as wide as his. Eddie's fingers were playing with the zipper of his fanny pack, ready to pull out his inhaler at any second.
"Come on, you have to!" Beverly grinned, "Don't be a chicken."
Eddie looked back at Richie and met his gaze. It didn't have to mean anything. It was just a stupid dare from their friends. He cupped Richie's face gently, his fingers meeting the ends of Richie's curls. Richie felt his heart speed up, his face getting hot where Eddie touched him, a blush creeping up his neck. Richie closed his eyes, leaning forward and connecting their lips. Eddie inhaled softly at the feeling of Richie's lips against his, but then quickly kissed back. Their lips moved together, awkwardly at first but they quickly began to move in sync. Richie's hand found Eddie's shoulder, pulling him closer as he kissed him. This kiss definitely meant something.
All too soon, Eddie felt himself pulling away. His eyes were wide and his mouth was slightly open. A deep red blush covered his face. Richie knew he looked exactly the same, if not happier. All the Losers started clapping and Stan cheered.
Eddie rolled his eyes and threw a pillow at them. "It was just a dare you guys." He laughed.
Richie looked at him, his smile faltering slightly. It was just a dare to him? Richie knew it had been a dare but it felt different, it felt real. He played the rest of the game, more distant than usual. He still cracked a joke occasionally, but now his mind was racing with a million other thoughts.
"I'm pretty tired, I think I'm gonna head home." Eddie yawned, stretching his arms and standing up.
Before Richie could think about what he was saying, he stood up too. "I'll walk you home, wouldn't want little Eddie-bear walking home alone in the dark."
Eddie rolled his eyes and swatted Richie's hand away as he tried to pinch his cheek, but he let Richie follow him out anyway. Once they got outside, the chill and silence of the night hit them. Eddie only made it a few steps from Ben's house until Richie stopped him, turning Eddie to face him.
"What-" Eddie began, but Richie cut him off with another kiss.
This wasn't a dare. This was Richie putting himself out on the line and praying Eddie wanted him. Richie began to doubt himself when he didn't feel Eddie kiss back, but just as he was pulling away, Eddie's lips quickly followed his and captured him in another kiss.
Eddie pulled Richie back in, kissing him slowly. Richie melted in his arms. He had never been as happy as he was now. Eddie tasted sweet, his lips were soft and his hand was warm on Richie's back. The cold air wasn't a problem anymore as both boys pulled each other closer, their chests bumping together as they kissed. Eddie's other hand found Richie's curls, tangling his fingers in them as he stood on his tippy toes to lean more into the kiss.
Eddie eventually pulled away, his lips slightly swollen and parted open, his eyes wide again and a grin on his face. His hair was messy and in his eyes from Richie touching it, and his cheeks were tinted pink from the cold. He looked breathtaking.
"You're staring at me." Eddie giggled.
"You're just so beautiful..." Richie responded, wrapping his arms around Eddie's waist and keeping him close. Eddie grinned, his face growing red as he hid it in Richie's chest. Richie placed a gentle kiss on the smaller boy's curls, hugging him tightly.
"So... does this mean we're dating?" Eddie looked up at him again, and his voice and eyes were so full of hope and innocence, Richie almost regretted what he said in response.
"Sorry Eds, I couldn't cheat on your mom like that."
Eddie rolled his eyes and pushed Richie away gently, turning on his heel and walking away from him. Richie laughed and began running after him, which got Eddie running too. Richie chased him down the street, both boys laughing and anticipating the moment Richie caught up to him.
