Richie had been unsuccessfully trying to climb up to Eddie's bedroom window for almost 5 minutes. He finally grasped the window ledge firmly, pulling himself up and grabbing on with the other hand.

"Good thing I did that pull up last week." He huffed, knocking on the window. It was pitch black outside, so the small lamp on Eddie's bedside table illuminated his sleeping face. His eyebrows creased at Richie's repetitive knocking until finally he woke up. The small boy rubbed his eyes, then he saw Richie at his window and ran over.

Once he had pulled Richie in and closed the window, Eddie turned to the clock.

12:03 PM was flashing at him in red.

"Richie it's midnight!" Eddie whisper-yelled, watching the door cautiously for his mom.

"I know," He smiled his mischievous, goofy smile. Eddie tried to fight the grin tugging at his own lips, but it was useless. "I just had to see you."

Eddie giggled and shook his messy head of small curls. He sat back down and felt Richie's arms engulf him in a tight hug. The two lay down together and Eddie felt butterflies in his stomach, warming up at Richie's touch.

Eddie closed his eyes, feeling himself doze off again quickly. Richie held him close, giving Eddie a sense of safety and security. He was happy and at peace. And that's how he fell asleep.

But that wasn't how he woke up. Eddie woke up quickly after, for real this time. His breath was ragged and quick. Richie wasn't there, Eddie was cold and alone in his room. His light was off and his window was shut and locked.

Richie hadn't been there in months. Four months exactly. Four months since the car accident that fatally took his boyfriend's life. Four months since the last time Eddie smiled and meant it. Four months since the last time Eddie had felt the boy's warm embrace. And Eddie had dreams constantly, dreams of a boy who was no longer there coming and comforting him.

Eddie curled up, holding the last sweatshirt the boy had left at his house. Eddie held it close to his chest and squeezed his eyes shut, tears cascading down his cheeks. Eddie cried in the silence, everything was eerily cold without Richie. This wasn't the first night Eddie had cried himself to sleep, and it wouldn't be the last. The love of his life was gone and Eddie would only ever see him again in dreams. Dreams that always faded away.
