"Mother please," Adam begged as he began throwing empty plastic plates into the bin.

"Oh hush Adam, I'm your mother, it's my job to say these things." Kelly said as he help Adam with the cleaning.

She stopped abruptly before gazing up at me, "Millie, help a lady out here, I'm trying to tell my silly son he needs to go out on dates, meet someone nice. Dont you agree?" He said in a sing-song with a wide smile spread across her face.

I let out a small giggle as Adam let out a loud sigh of defeat, shaking his head.

"Of course, you should definitely get yourself out there Adam," I joked, sending Kelly a small wink.

"Adam, you look just like me."

Adam rolled his eyes as he threw the last plate in the bin. "What's that meant to mean mother?"

She let out a frustrated sigh "It means dear, you are far to handsome to keep your good looks to yourself."

"Oh god, please stop this talk" he groaned whilst crossing his arms, leaning against the kitchen counter.

"Millie, isn't my son just dashing!" She squealed

Oh goodness.

I looked up at him through thick eyelashes "Very dashing," I sent him an apologetic smile.

"God, what has my life come too" adam faked cried with holding his hand to his face trying to hide the small plastered over his flushed face.

"Why don't you use go on a date, Millie you are stunning dear, and my son is well, we all know his a catch, I know together you'll have four children but th---"

Adam instantly held up his hands interrupting the rest of his mothers words. "Mother, for the love of god, please stop talking, Millie and I are just friends, there will be no dating going on here I'm a grown man who can make my own decisions I don't want to date anyone." He pushed himself off the counter before standing in front of his mother. "How can I go on a date with someone and pretend to want them when the only women I'll ever want is no longer with us" He whispered before stomping out the kitchen, leaving me and his mother speechless.

Kelly looked over at me with glossy eyes, she showed me a confidence smile before slowly walking away leaving me completely alone with my thoughs.

Ouch I'm not going to lie and say his words didn't sting me, I get it, we never will be an item but hearing him say the words we will just be friends left a small ache in my heart which I couldn't explain as to why, because lets be real he was right, we both wanted people who was not with us anymore, clearly the almost kiss in the garden was a moment of weakness for him too.

He doesn't want you Millie,

Just like you dont want him.

I kept repeating to myself over and over.

I wasnt sure how long I sat in this damn breakfast bar chair, the children's party continued in the background, I could hear my baby girl giggling, at least she was happy right now, That was enough for me.

I jumped off the chair and done the only thing I felt like I could. Tidy and clean, I started wrapping up the untouched food that was layed out before putting it into Adam's fridge, I wiped down the work tops, made myself a cup of coffee because why the hell not?

After about twenty minutes I was finally satisfied the kitchen looked spotless enough, I gulped down the last bit of coffee as Layne came running out to the kitchen wrapping her arms around my legs. The minute she was in my embrace she started sobbing uncontrollably.
