I spent a LONG TIME thinking about this 😂PLEEEAAASSSSEEE, if you agree with the title, comment on my reasonings if you want! Maybe we can add onto them!
Apparently there's a bit of the Marvel fandom who agrees with Thanos....?? And that part of the fandom thinks that the solution to overpopulation is getting rid of half of it. Of course, in real life, that's not possible. But in the MCU, it quite obviously is.
People argue that Thanos's intentions to "make more room for people to thrive" is the right thing to do.
Some other their arguments include:
1. Being richer. Less people means you'd be more recognized for your job, so you'd get paid double.
2. World hunger. Less people means fewer mouths to feed.
That's..... that's pretty much it...
And yet I know good arguments for both of those.
1. First off, getting paid double for your job won't make a difference, and here's why: Earning double also means you're spending double, because EVERYONE will charge double for everything! So in the end, everything just becomes more expensive!
2. As for world hunger... aren't we trying to prevent deaths and find better ways to feed starving people? So why would the solution be "saving thousands of lives by murdering billions?" Taking billions of lives to save a few thousand definitely doesn't seem like the solution to world hunger. We are still figuring out a solution to that issue, but wiping out half the population is not it.
AND HERE ARE MY OTHER ARGUMENTS!!
1. Accidents. Imagine these alternatives: You're on the operating table and getting a surgery when... the surgeon dusts away. Now what? Or, you're on a plane, about to go on a fun vacation. Whoops, the pilot is gone! And now the plane is gonna crash. And what if you're driving when you suddenly disappear? Now your car is left in the middle of the street, and people run into it. These would not only happen to one person. Snapping away half the universe doesn't only kill 50%. It kills more than that, since people would die in plane crashes, car accidents, on an operating table, etc. Maybe people would even die on boats. You never know...
2. Many important jobs are left unfilled. Those jobs require specialization, and Thanos killed most of the people that are specialized.
3. Thanos thinks that there are too many people, and not enough resources . Well... that's not the case. There's actually plenty of resources. We just aren't using them correctly. Snapping half the universe doesn't solve that issue, because the other half will just continue to use the resources incorrectly, causing population to lower to a dangerous level. Given that more than 4.5 billion people would dust away, and millions more would die due to what I stated at first, this is already saying something.
4. This one is simple. Ant-Man. That's right. Now let's think in terms of the MCU, not just what is possible in real life. Ant-Man and a few others were on the verge of discovering infinite energy and healing, which could ideally solve the whole "resources" problem without harming other people. But Thanos killed everyone who knew how to do that, leaving Scott trapped in the Quantum Realm.
5. Given some time, the MCU brainiacs could've probably discovered a better solution. If Thanos hadn't stepped in, maybe Tony and Bruce could put their heads together and figure something out. Or Peter, who is known as a child genius, could get through high school, grow up, and contribute to solving the problem. And let's not forget Shuri. She's so smart that she could probably cure all of the world's diseases tbh.
6. Okay, this would apply with both the MCU and the real world. Grieving people. Grief is different for everyone. Some move on very quickly. Others take more time. And some never move on. Well, if all of the people left were grieving, the world would just be depressing, wouldn't it? Losing someone close to you can cause depression, and we try to prevent depression because it can lead to things that are even worse. Thanos only seemed to care about the resources, and not how his actions would affect people mentally. If fact, his actions might cause some of the people who remain to go mentally insane. This means more violence around the world. Nobody would be safe.
7. Hazardous air. 50% of the population turned to dust, right? DUST. THAT NOBODY WOULD GET RID OF. It sounds awful and disgusting, but the ashes of more that 4.5 billion people would be filling the air, making it more unclean. And what's unsettling about that is that it's not only dangerous to breathe in, but you would literally be breathing the ashes of dead people...
8. Thanos said 50% OF ALL LIFE. Not just people. Animals? I'm danger. Plants? Also in danger. Animal species that were already endangered would probably be extinct. This includes Polar Bears, Snow Leopards, Manatees, Turtles, Blue Whales, etc. This would also lower the population of Cows, Chickens, and Sheep. These animals are needed for meat, eggs, milk, and wool. Not to mention we would lose a lot of our oxygen, since plants count as life too. It would take a lot of time to replant them.
9. Thanos's idea would only bring us back to the population we had in the 1970s, meaning that the low population that Thanos started would only last a few years before we return to the same number of people we have now. So what's the point?
All in all, Thanos is wrong :)
