A/N: here's something a bit different I hope you like it :P

I remember one day back when I was 12 years old, I was volunteering at my local flower shop around Valentine's day. I didn't expect to get paid at all but the owner was generous enough to give me a couple of dollars here and there for me to get something to eat on the way home.

The day of Valentine's day the owner came up to me to ask me some questions. She was just a sweet old lady wanting to give something back to the community. She ask, why I'm still here helping with the flowers instead of being with the person I love. I told her, I have no one to call as my love. She asked again, about my parents this time. I told her truthfully, I don't have any, I don't have parents to go home to or to call a home. She asked once again, saying if there's anyone I love. I told her...no I don't, but if I did they won't love me back. She simply just asked why.

I said, because I was meant to never be loved from the start. The old lady was silent for awhile before proceeding with her questions. She asked again why. I responded, no boy wouldn't want a girl with too many scars. She scoffed at me before saying, a boy wouldn't want a girl with scars because girls with scars are their stripes to a tiger's body and only men can handle tigers. I was confused as too why she said that but I continued on with my list. I told her, boy's don't want a girl with so many issues. She responded once again, a boy who can't defeat one girl's problem isn't mature enough to help handle all her problems. Still adding on to that list I said, but a boy wouldn't like a girl with a broken past. She responded again, only a boy looks back into your past to dread in it but a man looks into the future waiting to build it with you. I continued on with the list, but a boy wouldn't a girl who isn't attractive. She answered, a boy only see what's on the outside that appeals to him but a man will sit their and see the person you are under the mask. I replied back, but no boy would like a girl who talks a lot. She responded, a boy would only tell a girl to be quiet but for a man he would love to hear her talk for hours on end. I once again added more to that list, but a boy doesn't want a who's constantly sad. She responded again, a boy is the only that can make a girl constantly sad but a man will find every way to make her smile and laugh because that is his sun.

Getting frustrated I told her, well a boy wouldn't want a girl who's heart has been broken again and again. She responded back but this time with a smile. Only a heart can break once and you can put the pieces back but a man will help you put them back even if they aren't in the right places he will sit there and learn to fix your once broken heart so that you can be loved again. I stayed quiet didn't know what else to say. Given my silent to her she said something that stuck with me for awhile. She told me, the problem you can't love is because I have excuses to not to love. With each excuse there is a hope. You don't have to be pretty, quiet, happy, scarless, problem free, an unbroken heart or have a past filled with life to be loved. They are your flaws it's what makes you as a human. There will be boys that will want to change you or ignore you for that but you must remember that he is only a boy not a man he's no mature enough to handle you. That what defines between a boy and a man the way he handles his love. Maybe one day in the future you will find a man that treats you like you were supposed to be. I may not be there to witness it but I know when your eyes lay on the one that person that'll never leave your heart. You're gonna remember who told you that it is possible for you to love. Once you do, expect your usual ups and downs because eventually you won't be the same girl you are now because you will be fighting and caring so much for that person even if it means you're gonna wait for him.

At that time I just rolled my eyes and shrugged it off like that's gonna ever happen...was I wrong.
