Tell me, what makes you smile? Is it the laughter of loved ones? Is it the joy of accomplishing a life goal? Is it telling the story of one person to another?
Smiling is such a small thing to do. A facade to trick everyone that you are okay in life. A feature that can mask your true emotions with just a simple curve on the lips. A mask that everyone wears and hide behind.
Until someone asks you what makes you smile?
Let me tell you what makes me smile. Being surrounded by a group of close friends laughing at jokes and spending time with one another. Looking up to the person I love and adore makes me all flustered but yet loved at the same time making me feel safe and accepted. A good song that you can listen to at 3 in the morning where the lyrics can help you soothe your mind and heart. A good book to read in the warmth of your home while the rain gently hits the window creating a cozy and soft atmosphere of content. A T.V show with a character who overcomes many obstacles and becomes the better version of themselves.
These are one of the many things that makes me smile. The things that when I'm depressed and feel like nothing is going to get better. I have the joy of experiencing these moments in my shorten time of life. There are many more for me to experience many more for me to learn and grow. But right now the people who are in front of me makes sure I have a smile on my face. Not just a fake smile that can slip pass anyone in any given day but a true genuine smile. So when I meet someone new the first thing they'll notice is the authentic smile I give them upon first impression.
We show people that there are good things in the world. Show people that me and you can find joy in the smallest of things. This doesn't mean you have to go out and do a whole exploration to find what makes you smile. It comes to you. It takes longer for others but it will eventually come. You just have to be patient and wait for it to come. After all everyone is different, unique, and special.
And when you meet someone who is down or always seem to be negative or can't find anything to say good about ask them this.
What makes you smile? What makes you live on with life? What can you remember that made you happy?
What makes you smile dear?
