Emotional roller-coaster

Right now, you were feeling good. Today started pretty badly, until then it went very badly. But now your victory was assured, and everything was all good and dandy.

At least he would've been if Ginrou wasn't such a total scumbag!

As soon as the second semi-final started, he chased Senku around to take him down while yelling about how he'll be the new chief and have his own stock of ramen and how he'll give a harem for each guys in the village.
"He's more of a pervert than Gen!" you cringed in slight disgust.

Chrome, who has laid down to rest, threw Suika's mask piece at Senku.
Senku understood what he had to do and began to set up a simple contraption. Thinking he'd do another fire-starting convex lens, Ginrou started to move and jump around so as to not give him a chance to use it on his clothes. But Senku just used the mask and his weapon to make a see-saw effect and hit his balls. To everyone's happiness and relief.
"Senku advances to the finals!" Jasper announced.

The whole village cheered, apparently they all agreed that it wasn't the greatest idea to let this guy be their chief.
"Now it's a completely safe win!" you pressed on the 'now'.
"We'll be able to save Ruri..." Chrome, laying besides you said, closing his eyes.
"Chrome?" you knelt and gently shook him. "Don't pass out now, it's the finals. Come on."
"Yeah," Senku poked him with his weapon. "all I have to do is give up then you'll mary Ruri and we'll all have a happily ever after."

"He's passed out cold." Suika said.
"After using what was left of his strength, he must've been so relieved that he passed out..." Kohaku paused. "Hang on a sec."
Realizing what that meant, you felt your heart suddenly sinking.

"The new village chief..." even Jasper couldn't believe what he was about to say. "and the one who will become the priestess' husband, is the winner Senku."
"Whaaaaaat?" Senku said, just as shocked as the others, sweating a bit.
You rubbed your eyes, your heart not catching a break today.
"This is the worst day ever." you mumbled to yourself.

After a moment passed and after processing the situation, Senku managed to regain his composure.
"Thing have gotten seriously complicated here." he looked at Ruri, who came down when the winner was announced. "But if I marry you Ruri, then I'd obtain the entire village right?" he sighed and walked up to her. "Fine then, here I go."

And just like that, the two of them were married.
"Wo-what?!" you shouted. "Just...Just like that?! Huh?!"
"What?" he looked at you.
"What do you mean 'what'?!"

Well, you figured that it has never been a big deal for him. But how could he act so casual about it?! Does he not realize what follows something like marriage?!
Well, who are you to ask him such questions?! You're not his girlfriend! Unfortunately! Wait no! There was good and valid reasons why you repressed your feelings! Good reasons!
Well now it's too late! He was now taken!
God you felt so regretful right now...

Before either of you could say anything, the chief walked in, and he was not happy.
"Where the hell did you come from anyway you bastard?! I can't accept an outsider as our chief!"
"Oh well, if it isn't the previous chief!" Senku picked his ear. "I don't have a millimeter of interest in what you can or can't accept!"
You'd probably add something to really tease the guy, but you were preoccupied at the moment.

"Anyway, I won right?" he continued. "A victory is a victory! Now..." he raised his hand. "Booze~! Bring me booze! Now!"
Not able to disagree with their new chief, some villagers brought all the jars they had, all of them full.
"These are no good." one of them gestured to three of them. "They already turned into vinegar."
"Don't throw them out! I'll take those too!"

Suddenly, Ruri started coughing violently, blood dripping from her mouth. She fell on her knees and Kohaku quickly ran by her side. Now the thought of her dying and Senku being available again did cross your mind, but you'll never dwell or act on it, because you weren't a psycho.
"Well I guess I'll knock one back!" a few guys started to get their cup ready.
'Do they like, not care that she's dying?' you thought. 'I guess they're just used to it... Which is pretty sad.'
"Well then, today for the ceremony, we all drink all through the night until dawn." one of them said to Senku.
"Ah~ I see." he picked on his ear, with one of his carefree smile. "Then I guess I'll need a divorce."

And, just as fast, Senku and Ruri got divorced. Pure silence followed his words.

"Wha...?" you couldn't even said a full word, you were too shocked.
'Boy you're playing with my heart right now!!!'

Senku quickly grabbed your hand and ran towards the bridge, dragging old man Kaseki with his collar with his other hand. Senku laughed maniacally.
"We just got tons of alcohol and vinegar! Back to our kingdom my citizens of science!"
"Since when did I become one of your citizens?!" Kaseki shouted.
"Sorry Ruri! I'll explain everything later!" Kohaku followed you guys, holding all the jars in her arms and on her head.

You laughed, the kind that came from the heart, which just exploded with relief. You squeezed his hand back.

You helped Kaseki make this spinning thing made out of bamboo, under a little waterfall. When asked what it was for, Senku only said to wait until tomorrow. He was always dramatic in that way. Kaseki seemed to have taken a liking to Gen, for some reason, and he made him stay with him to look after his bamboo-baby.
Meanwhile, you brought poor Chrome back, who was still passed out. Naive Suika thought Senku would let him rest, but then he inserted some ammonia into his nostrils and he woke up screaming.
"Now get on your feet and help out the science team!" Senku kicked him. "All we need to do is put the ingredients together and we're done! By tomorrow, our cure-all will be complete!"
"Tomorrow?!" Chrome asked.
"That's great! Let's get this shit done!"

You knew it wasn't going to be simple right after you completed step one and Senku said there was twenty-five of them. The whole making process lasted a long while. You assisted Kohaku with collecting different materials and sometimes guided Suika around, poor thing didn't have her glasses anymore.

The next morning, there was a big explosion in the lab. Apparently Senku and Chrome added too much that acetic hydride-stuff to the alinine-thingy, it made a huge mess, but fortunately no one was hurt. After you made sure they were still alive, Senku told you not to worry about it and to go get that bamboo container at the waterfall, saying it should be ready by now.

On your way there, you saw Gen happily walking back to the HQ, holding two bottles in his hands.
"Gen!" you called out.
"Oh my!" he stopped in front of you. "Good morning (Y/n)-chan!"
"You already emptied out Kaseki's baby?! I was supposed to do that!"
"Ow~ and here I thought you came here to see me." seeing your frown, he handed one to you. "Don't be jealous~ how about we share the task?"

You took the bottle and the two of you started walking together. Gen's enthusiasm didn't fade in the least.
"Why are you so happy?" you asked.
"Do you know what this is?" he raised his bottle. "Carbon dioxide!"
"Oh! Cola!"
"Yes~." he paused. "Although, I don't think Senku-chan is that kind of a person..."
"I've wondered, you were willing to change sides for that drink. You like cola that much?"
"Not exactly, there was a lot of other reasons. It was only the tipping point."
"I see..."

A moment passed, Gen started to walk slower so that the way back would last longer, knowing you'd follow his pace.

"I've wondered myself," he eventually said. "now you have your instruments, but I have yet to hear anything from you. How come?"
"Well... I get surrounded whenever I play in front of people. It can be a bit suffocating." you scratched your cheek. "So now I just play by myself from time to time."
"..." he looked forward. "Let's just hope Senku-chan doesn't end up regretting his choice then."
"Huh?"
You were taken aback by his harsher tone.
"What's the point of playing music if there's no one to hear it."
"I...I hear it."
"No offense (Y/n)-chan, but do you really think Senku would have brought you here so you could play by yourself?"

Before you could say anything, Gen picked up the pace. He may have been harsh on this one. He was...ticked off, by what you said.
Not only were you still holding yourself back and still not living up to your potential, but he was the only one who hasn't listen to you music yet.

He used Senku's name knowing it'd be a push for you. He knew you valued his opinion, more than his anyway.
