CHAPTER 4: FALSE ACCUSATIONS

__________✧・゚: *✧・゚:*__________

"I CAN'T BELIEVE WELLS IS DEAD," I MUTTER to a girl named Harper as we take a quick break from building the wall. Because of my ankle, both Bellamy and Clarke forbade me from participating in any manual labor.

Harper nods in agreement to my statement. Unbeknownst to almost everyone, Wells had been killed last night outside the walls while on watch and no one knows who did it. People speculate it had been the grounders, but I don't think it was. They haven't attacked since Jasper's incident so why would they attack now? Though, I may be wrong, but I trust my gut.

"Uhh! What the hell is wrong with you, Murphy?" A loud voice echoes throughout camp, causing me to jump slightly. My head shoots up and I see a few people holding back a guy whose anger is directed toward Murphy; and rightfully so. Murphy has a way of getting under your skin. "I'll kill you."

My eyes look to the boy who has a nasty smirk on his lips as he shrugs and says, "You wanted a water break. Get back to work!"

I look at the table in front of me with my arms crossed over my chest. Two of Wells' fingers sit atop it and a knife made of scrap metal from the drop ship is beside them. Someone seriously doesn't like Wells if they cut his fingers off after killing him. This makes things ten times worse.

"This knife was made of metal," Clarke states as she examines the knife. She's upset and has every right to be; Wells was her best friend and now he's dead. From grounders or someone inside camp? That's something we need to figure out and fast because for all we know, one of us is next. "From the drop ship."

"What do you mean?" Jasper manages to ask, his voice low and full of fear.

"Who else knows about this?" Bellamy questions curiously.

"No one," Octavia answers with a shake of her head. "We brought it straight here."

"Clarke?" Jasper asks quietly.

"It means the grounders didn't kill Wells," I answer for her, pursing my lips. Putting two and two together isn't exactly hard. My gut has been telling me that something was off about the whole thing. "It was one of us."

I hear Jasper begin to breath heavily, letting out an audible gulp. "So, there's a murderer in the camp?"

"There's more than one murderer in this camp." Bellamy shakes his head, glancing at the boy. My mind wanders to the three guards I had killed when I was being taken to lock up. It's not by best moment, and it also makes me one of those murderers.

"This is big news," Bellamy continues. "We need to keep it quiet."

I see Clarke practically fuming beside me before she turns and begins walking to the door. Bellamy, however, sidesteps and blocks her path, making the girl glare up at his dark features.
