CHAPTER 10: BEST UNITY DAY EVER
__________✧・゚: *✧・゚:*__________
"What if he brings other grounders back?"
The minute we made it I to camp with the supplied from the depot, Clarke and Bellamy we're bombarded with questions. Some about the nuts and what we're going to do with them, but most of them we're about the grounder in the drop ship. Or at least, the one that used to be in the drop ship. Apparently, at some point during our trip, while everyone in camp was losing their minds to hallucigenic nuts, the grounder escaped. Whether he got out on his own or someone let him go is up for debate but people are losing their minds over it.
"They'll kill us!"
"Or worse," another chimes in.
"Let the grounders come," Bellamy shouts which grabs everyone's attention. Everyone goes silent as the boy continues. "We've been afraid of them for far too long, and why? Because of their knives and spears. I don't know about you, but I'm tired of being afraid."
Bellamy and I exchanged looks before letting our bags of guns fall to the ground in a flattering heap. Kids from all around us gasp and mutter to themselves at the sight of actual weapons, something that can help us defend against the grounders.
"These are weapons, not toys, okay?" Clarke warns, giving every single kid eying the guns a stern look. "And we have to be prepared to give them up to the guard when the drop ships' come. But until then, they're gonna help keep us safe."
"And there are plenty more where these came from," Bellamy adds with a nod. "Tomorrow, we start training, and if the grounders come, we're gonna be ready to fight."
Bellamy and Clarke dismiss everyone and I help carry the guns into the drop ship. Once I'm finished, I help clean up and store our new supplies, which takes about an hour my myself because Clarke practically dragged Bellamy to our tent with the radio. She's going to convicted Jaha to pardon Bellamy.
Once I finish, I don't hesitate to spin on my heel and make my way to my tent, wanting nothing more than to sleep away the pain.
The instant I'm inside my tent, I flop down on my make-shift bed, letting out a small groan. Today has definitely been a bad day and plan to stay away from those stupid nuts from now on; especially if Abby tries to kill me again. The sound of someone pushing the canvas of my tent aside makes me jump. I swipe my knife from my boot and grip it as I aim it.
"Whoa, whoa, it's just me," Bellamy said, holding his hands up in surrender. Sighing, I lower my arm, my body relaxing a little.
"Sorry."
His lips form a straight line as he takes a step into my tent and asks, "You don't mind, do you?"
I shake my head, and motion for him to enter. A few seconds of silence pass before I decide to ask how his pardoning went. "So, how'd it go? Did Jaha pardon you?" Bellamy nods. "That's good. I guess this means you're staying?"
Bellamy nods and sends me a boyish grin. "Yeah. Unfortunately for you, sunshine, it looks like you're stuck with me for a while longer."
"I hate when you call me that," I grumble, a hint of a smile forming on my lips as I roll my eyes at the boy.
"I know you do." His smile drops and is replaced with a straight line and knit brows and before he even opens his mouth, I k ow what he's going to say. "Aiden--"
"It was my mom." My interruption shocks him slightly as he closed his mouth and stares at me, but not with a look of pity like I thought he would. Instead, he crosses his arms over his chest and listens to me as I continue. "The hallucination; it was my mom. She was-- she told me I brought her here and that I ruined her life. That it was my fault. I don't understand what I could've possibly done to make her hate me."
