CHAPTER 5: FLARES

A LOUD BANG OUTSIDE MY TENT
wakes me in a panic, my body jolting upright. My heart is pounding in my chest. "What the hell?"

I immediately stand up and rush out of my tent. People from all over camp rush out of their tents and the drop ship in search of the loud bang. That's when I see it in the sky; a pod falling to the ground. The bang must have been the parachute deploying.

"They're coming to help us," Jones states. "Now we can kick some grounder ass."

A few people around us agree with him, but I just roll my eyes. Just because a pod was launched from the Ark doesn't mean there will be people on it. It could very well be supplies or something.

"Please tell me they brought down some shampoo," I hear a girl mutter. My eyes narrow and I turn to her.

"That's what your worried about? Whether or not they have shampoo?" I question in disbelief. I recognize the girl as the one Bellamy has been sleeping with the last couple days. When she turns to me, I almost want to slap the offended expression off her face. "Sorry to burst your bubble, but I'm pretty sure our survival is more important than your hair."

"Do you even know how much dirt and nasty crap has gotten into my hair these last couple days? I think shampoo is pretty important."

I scoff. "You won't be saying that when your life is on the line, will you? When it comes down to it, staying alive is a hell of a lot more important than having soft, clean hair."

"Who the hell do you think you are?" The girl hisses, taking a step toward me and getting in my face.

I stand my ground, getting in her face as well. But our stand off doesn't last long because we're being pulled away from each other by Bellamy. "That's enough, both of you. Now's not the time to worry about shampoo, Rachel."

The girl's head snaps to Bellamy, her eyes wide with shock. "You're siding with her? You don't know this girl. She's a murderer, Bellamy."

"Most people in this camp are murderers. Just... Go cool off somewhere."

"Rachel" just scoffs and storms off in the opposite direction. That had to be the most unnecessary argument in history. Before I'm able to say anything, Bellamy is heading back to his tent. I furrow my brows, thinking that no one is going to do anything about this pod. That is until Bellamy appears again with a shirt and jacket on. The two of us head to HQ to find Jones inside already, along with a few other of Bellamy's close followers. I say HQ because we do most of our planning in this tent.

"Do we know where it could have landed?" Bellamy asks, wasting no time getting to the point.

"If it cleared the ridge, it's probably near the lake," Jones states. Octavia then steps into the tent and I greet her with a tight-lipped smile, which she returns before looking at her brother.
