Chapter 22

We charged right through the camp. I stood leaning back on a tree as Levi dragged a guy from the interior police. He said he had questions for him. I shivered at the thought of more torture. Then again, the bastard deserved it. We all stood around while Levi gave him the ole Eren treatment of kicks. I was concerned when Sasha heard multiple people coming toward us. That was until we saw it was Hange and Moblit. I smiled at her as she revealed the news that we were no longer criminals and that the coup was successful. The other members of the squad screamed and jumped around. Mikasa actually hugged me before she started talking to the others. I smiled and walked over to Levi and Hange. "Looks like Erwin's gamble paid off." "That it did, but it wasn't just Erwin who gambled. Many people had to make a lot of hard choices for this to work." Levi seemed off to me, but I didn't have time to ponder as Sasha came jumping over to me, dancing around. "Whereas my choices got three of your people killed. I'm sorry." The squad was dancing around like kids and I smiled at each of them. It was the first I had seen them smile in such a long time. Sasha hung on me and brought me into the conversation the squad members were all having. I finally, felt like a part of the group. Everyone became silent in awe of Hange. She took control and told us where Eren and Historia may be.

I rode on Calamity as Hange explained things. I shook my head. Why did everything have to be so complicated? Levi talked about Kenny and the squad along with Hange speculated on different things. Levi and Mikasa spoke about the Ackermans and how they might have this sort of power that suddenly made them extremely strong. We got to the chapel and found the door to where Eren and Historia may be. I took a deep breath as I sat crouched next to Armin. He was fixing something on the barrels for the diversion and I just sat aside, not really paying attention to anything until Levi asked if everyone was ready. I shook myself out of my trance. Levi spoke of dirtying our hands. No one really looked too happy about that, but most of them looked kind of spooked other than Armin, Hange, Levi, and me. All people who had killed before. I steeled myself. I was ready for anything. Anything to get everything back on track for us. Levi kicked the door open and we sent the barrels down. Sasha shot a flaming arrow at the barrels as planned. I was beside Armin handing him the reloads for the smoke signals. I watched as Levi flew through the air avoiding Kenny's shots. I tensed up as he and Kenny went head to head and when there was an explosion I started to get up to run over until Sasha grabbed my arm. Armin looked at me and told me he'd be fine. Right then, Levi came flying through the fiery explosion. He continued fighting and I saw Hange get pierced and fall to the ground.

"HANGE!" The scream of her name... the way I screamed was so guttural.. it got everyone's attention. Sasha let go of my arm. I sprinted over, fell down to my knees, and held onto her. "Hange!" She was still breathing. "Hange, don't die on me." Everyone came over to check on her. I was crying, it was like Petra all over again. I started to think that every time I got a sister figure they'd be doomed, but she wasn't dead yet and that's what mattered. As long as she was still breathing she'd be fine. Armin and Moblit picked her up as we ran to find Eren and Historia. I was still silently crying, worrying about the only other person I was close to that wasn't Levi, but I needed to forget about the tears. We were stuck behind a net and trapped in the cavern. Someone was transforming and we could see the light from it as well as how the caverumbled. I heard the bitch that hurt Hange and gritted my teeth. We needed to get in there soon. I trusted Historia and Eren to fight, but we had to prepare for the worst-case scenario. The way through opened up and Moblit and Armin were given orders to take Hange and go. Levi had to convince me to not go with Hange when they took her away from the action. I let up pretty easily, knowing we didn't have the time to argue, and I knew I couldn't do much for her right now. Besides, how else was I going to get a chance at killing the bitch that injured her? As we found our way into where Eren and Historia were being held, Mikasa caught Historia from slamming into the wall and getting a possible concussion. I flew next to them to stabilize Historia. "Mikasa? (Y/n)?" Wow, I didn't even know she knew my name, sure we were in the same squad but we never really interacted. I managed to force a weak smile at her as the guys unlocked Eren's chains.
