Emmeline Walshaw exhaled a deep breath she didn't know she was holding in. She never slept the day before returning to Hogwarts. The pastel hue of the cloudless sky was just beginning to conceal the stars, alerting Emmeline the morning was near. Gently, she placed the mug on the edge of the counter. She hated the way it echoed due to the house being so errily silent. Her resting heat rate was even audible to her. The emptiness had remained statis since both of her parents were murdered by Voldemort, for no other reason than that they were muggles. The couple were beyond surprised to have one magical daughter, let alone two, but nonetheless they supported both of them deeply. The sixteen year old smiled sadly everytime she viewed the row of family photos lining the wall. If she concentrated hard enough, she could still hear her dad's booming laugh. She could feel her mum's vivacious demeanour, remembering the way it always managed to illuminate an entire room. Emmeline couldn't help but think she was failing them. They were so brave and she was a coward.
When she reached her sister, Daisy's, room she wasn't surprised to find her still sound asleep. Snoring softly, her golden hair standing on end and a large amount of drool crawling down her scrunched face informed Emmeline she was not going to wake easily.
"Daisy," she cooed softly.
"Go away." The response was muffled as she had slammed her head under the pillow in frustration.
"We'll miss the train," Emmeline warned, pulling open the curtains and enabling a stream of Septemeber sunlight to fill the room.
It took some convincing, but eventually, the fourteen year old girl was miserably shovelling cornflakes in her mouth. Stressed, Emmeline was triple checking she and her sister had everything packed.
"There's only two years between us, you know. If I've forgot something it's my own fault. I can take care of myself," mused Daisy, rolling her eyes at her sister's pedantic behaviour.
"I know, I know." Emmeline let out an irritable sigh. She very much struggled finding a harmonious balance between taking good care of her sister and allowing her to have her independence.

After a seemingly endless void of bickering, the Walshaw siblings successfully made their way to Kings Cross.
"EMMY!" squealed a voice, making Emmeline jump. There was only one person that obnoxious laugh could belong to.
"Angelina," gasped Emmeline, her face creasing into a smile after realising it was her best friend. "You shouldn't scare people like that!"
"God, I thought this summer you might've relaxed. But, no, you're still as uptight as ever," chuckled Angelina.
"Of course not, more chance of seeing pigs fly," scoffed Daisy. "I'm off to find Neville and Luna. Catch you later!"
"Wait, be careful! Stay out of trouble," Emmeline reminded her.
Daisy sighed. "I will," she emphasised.
"Good." Emmeline smiled watching her race up to Neville and Luna.
"Babe, I know I mention this a lot but the kid's fourteen do you not think you're being a bit-" began Angelina, biting her lip.
"No," Emmeline cut her short. "I know what I'm doing. She's got no one else."
Angelina nodded and kept quiet, deciding it best to not press the subject further.
The anticipation could be cut with a knife as eager Hogwarts students waited for the scarlet express to arrive. Eventually it did, filling the platform with the familiar eruption of smoke. Emmeline boarded the train, Angelina closely following by. They sat down in their usual compartment and Angelina closed the door hurriedly.
