Emmeline blinked through bleary eyes. She had fallen asleep in her own bed. Her hand clutched her throbbing temples as she sat up and flicked on the lamp. A banging on the door made her jump. She shuffled across the dorm, avoiding eye contact with Angelina, and opened the door.

"Veronica?!"

"Hi. You're looking really not good," she commented.

"Nice to see you too," sighed Emmeline.

"I've came to give you this back." She brandished the Quidditch repair kit and thrusted it to Emmeline's chest.
Emmeline's heart sank. Angelina couldn't see that she had given her present to Veronica.

"Why are you giving this to me? It's your Christmas present."

"I don't want it anymore. You've upset me. Friends should stick together and you left me the first chance you got."

"Veronica, that isn't what happened-"

"That's exactly what happened!"

Veronica turned on her heel and began charging down the corridor.

"Are we still friends?" Emmeline desperately called after her.

Veronica whipped around and shot Emmeline a baleful stare, before storming out of sight.

"I'll take that as a no," muttered Emmeline, toying with the Quidditch repair kit box.

"Aw, trouble in paradise?" teased Angelina, heading to the bathroom. "Wait- is that my Quidditch kit?!"

"This?" Emmeline asked pretending to look surprised. "Oh, no this is one I got for Veronica."

Angelina's dark eyes narrowed with scepticism. "That's really funny."

"What is?"

"How mine goes missing and then suddenly Veronica has one..."

"I got you both one, it's not my fault you lost yours," Emmeline said quickly.

"Don't lie!" Angelina's eyes were glazed with tears. "You bought that from Hogsmeade and you weren't even friends with Veronica back then."

"No...well...I ordered it with my owl. Yeah I sent my owl across to Hogsmeade and ordered another one for Veronica. "

"Veronica isn't even on the Quidditch team!"

"She still likes Quidditch!"

"You know what? Get out my sight. I can't even stand to look at you anymore. You're worse than Veronica and that's saying something."

"You don't get to walk away from this! It's your fault the whole school now knows about my dead parents!"

"That was you who was shouting it across the whole school!" roared Angelina. "I wanted to have a private word but you wanted to scream it so everyone can hear."

"I'm leaving!"

"I'm already leaving! I said I was leaving first!"

The two began wrestling out of the door and bustled down the corridor. They were still screaming at each other when they reached the common room.

"Nice to see you two have made up," George said.

"This has literally nothing to do with you!" growled Emmeline.

"Mmm that's where you're wrong. You see, when you two don't stop screaming at each other in my presence...well that kind of makes it my business."

"Don't worry George I'm done speaking to her."

"Good I never want to see you again!"

"You may find that tricky when you're in the same dorm and the same house," Fred pointed out.

"Good job I'm off to see the sorting hat! I'm requesting to change to Ravenclaw!"

Before Emmeline could retort, Angelina had stormed out, slamming the portrait hole behind her.

"You know what hurts the most?" began Emmeline quietly as she fell onto the sofa. "That she, my old best friend, genuinely believed I wasn't responsible enough to care for my sister."

"To be fair, Em, you haven't been speaking to her because Veronica told you not to," Fred said.

Emmeline glared at him before her face softened. "Who even am I?"

"That's something only you can work out."

"You think she's done the right thing don't you? Telling McGonagall?"

Fred sighed and shrugged. "I don't know. I don't know you or Daisy well enough to comment on this."

"I'm going to speak to McGonagall."

Emmeline spotted Cedric on her way to McGonagall's. She was shocked to see he had his arm laced around Vivienne.

"Cedric?" she exploded.

"Ah, Emmeline." The boy looked embarrassed as he detangled his arm from Vivienne's waist.

"What are you doing with her?" Emmeline demanded. She was sick of people betraying her.

"Last night when you didn't turn up-"

"You copped off with whoever else would have you?!"

"It wasn't like that!"

"Whatever."

Emmeline stormed away towards McGonagall's office. Emmeline banged on the door. After numerous attempts without answer, she burst through the door. McGonagall was locked in a discussion with a plump woman with wild gingery hair.

"Emmeline, one would tell you that no response meant I was busy," McGonagall said curtly.

"I'm sorry Professor." Emmeline blushed as she fumbled with her fingers. "I'll go-"

"Actually it might be better if you stay." As McGonagall spoke, the woman adjacent to her turned. She revealed kind, wrinkled eyes and rosy cheeks. McGonagall instructed her to sit and she waved her wand and duplicated the chair. Emmeline obliged, awkwardly perching herself on the newest chair.

"This is Mrs Weasley," McGonagall informed a perplexed Emmeline.

"Hello, dearie," smiled Mrs Weasley.

"Mrs Weasley as in Fred and George's mum?" Emmeline asked.

"Indeed," sighed Mrs Weasley.

"I don't understand," Emmeline admitted slowly. McGonagall and Mrs Weasley exchanged a smile. Emmeline hated being kept out the loop, it was like they knew something really important that she didn't.

"Fred has told me all about your situation and you and your sister are more than welcome to come and stay with us," Mrs Weasley said softly.

Emmeline's mouth dropped open.

"That way, you and Daisy won't be separated and you'll be with people you know," McGonagall said.

"Don't you mind? You already have like seven kids and-" Emmeline said.

Mrs Weasley chuckled. "No of course we don't mind. We already have Harry and Hermione staying whenever they can so what's a few extra?"

"Thank you," laughed Emmeline in disbelief.

"Of course we will still have to ask Daisy what she thinks but I don't see there being a problem," McGonagall said.

"When...When can we move in?" Emmeline asked.

"How about right now?" replied Mrs Weasley.

"What?"

"No time like the present," the middle aged lady beamed. "You can stay with us for the remainder of Christmas break, just to see how you like the place. It's not much but it's home. That's if you want to of course."

Emmeline nodded swiftly. "Of course I want to. I'll go and find Daisy now. Thank you!"

"Not a problem. It's Fred you should be thanking anyway, he's quite persuasive when he needs to be."

Emmeline darted out the office, feeling considerably better than when she had entered.
