"Oh look it's that girl we used to hang around with! I always wondered where she had gone," Velma said.
"You won't tell anyone will you?" Vivienne asked, ignoring Velma's idiotic comment. Emmeline submerged from the cubicle, wanting to be anywhere else but there. They wouldn't hurt her, would they?
"Of course she won't because she's seen what happened to Cedric when he upsets us...Same could happen to her," Malfoy stated, folding his arms. His voice was so cold, so calm. It was as though threatening people with murder was a daily occurance for him.
"You wouldn't...couldn't...Everyone would get suspicious," Emmeline pointed out, locking eyes with Vivienne. Out of the trio, she seemed the most likely to crack. Draco appeared far too eager to murder to give in and Velma most likely didn't have a clue what was happening.
"We would make it an accident, just like Cedric," Malfoy responded silkily. He waved his wand and locked the bathroom door. There was no escape. Emmeline puffed out her chest, doing her best to remain calm.
"Two deaths in two days, it will attract attention," Emmeline continued, her voice wavering slightly. Draco's steel grey eyes latched onto the Gryffindor. He was smirking at her fear.
"You make a valid point," continued Draco. "Maybe we should wait a few days."
Emmeline stepped closer to Vivienne, whoose lip was now curled as a second round of tears threatened to fall. "There's no way she would be able to handle it. She can't cope with an accidental one, how will she manage murdering me?"
"Okay fine, she's right!" cried Vivienne, finally erupting. "I can't do this!" Draco scowled at her. Deciding the threatening tactic wasn't going to work, she tried a new approah. "Emmeline won't tell anyone anyway, we're friends."
Vivienne's sickly sweet voice made Emmeline scoff. "We're not friends."
"We used to be, really really close. Then we drifted apart...," Vivienne continued sprouting lies as though her life depended on it. In a way, it did.
"By drifted you mean broke into mine and my friend's dorm and stole our personal belongings!" Emmeline yelled back. She wasn't scared anymore. She was angry.
Vivienne laughed. "A misunderstanding, but it's all water under the bridge now. Veronica's gone so we can be friends now. Just like the good old times!"
"There was nothing good about them! For starters, I looked like I had a volcano on my head trying to copy your stupid hairstyle and secondly, I treat everyone who I had ever cared about like shit and lost all my friends. So, yeah, probably the worst time of my life actually."
"Name your price," she said, the sweet demeanour swapping out and being replaced by a more serious and determined one. She had to do anything she could to save herself and keep Emmeline quiet.
"What?" Emmeline spluttered, taken aback.
"Name your price," she repeated. "One hundren galleons. A thousand!"
"You can't buy my silence," Emmeline said firmly. That wasn't going to stop Vivienne from continuing.
"Ten thousand. Think of what that could do for yours and Daisy's future. You need this."
Emmeline sighed. She hated that her mind had drifted, imaging what that kind of money could do. How far would Vivienne go? She couldn't rely on the tournament providing a substantial future or could she rely on Fred and the Weasleys to support her. Their future was bleak and uncertain but this money could secure them a house together. It could make all her dreams come true.
Suddenly, she was snapped back to reality when Vivienne pressed her for a decision. "I don't know...I need time," she finally answered.
"Think about how upset Cedric's parents would be if they found out that it could have been prevented," Vivienne persuaded in a soft voice.
"He deserves justice," Emmeline argued back. She was shocked Vivienne was acting like any of this was her fault; she was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
"It wouldn't do anything. It wouldn't bring him back. It would just make them angry at Viv and then she will suffer. There's no need for that to happen," Draco said, also taking a more gentile route.
"No one needs to know you took the money, it can be our little secret. It's only a bad choice if other people find out," Vivienne added. Briefly, Emmeline wondered what secrets they had and how serious they were. She shuddered at the thought.
"I need time, this is a lot to take in," Emmeline revealed. She couldn't believe she was considering this. If she accepted the money, it would all go away. Plus, she would have a secure future with all of that money.
"We don't have time. You either take the money or we kill you," Draco answered simply as though he was asking her whether she preferred chocolate or strawberry ice cream.
"I'm not going to tell anyone," said vowed.
"And why should we believe you?" Vivienne said.
"Because if I do tell, Dumbledore will come and have a word." Her voice was firm, reassuring them that she had the upper hand in this situation. She knew a secret that could destroy Vivienne's life...if it came out.
She left the bathroom, leaving Draco looking angry and Vivienne looking bewildered.
As she returned back to the Gryffindor common room, she wished she hadn't heard any of that. She wished she had just stayed with Fred, then she wouldn't know the truth about what happened to Cedric. She wouldn't have to make this decision.
She couldn't accept the money! That was all types of wrong. She couldn't benefit from something so tragic. Then again, like Vivienne said, no one would have to know...
