"Excuse me, I really hope you don't mind me coming up to you like this. I just wanted to say that you've really inspired me. I have always wanted to play Quidditch but because of my size I've always thought I wasn't good enough but you made me realise I am. I'm going to try out next year!" This wasn't the first student that had approached Emmeline and thanked her. They all made her out to be some kind of hero. She wasn't; she was just an ordinary person who decided to speak the truth.
"Don't thank me! Wear that Gryffindor tie with pride. You're brave and you can do it." The plump third year left with a wide grin on her face, feeling like a weight had been lifted off her shoulders after speaking to Emmeline. More students swarmed her on her way towards her first lesson. After convincing a Hufflepuff student she should be more than happy to be sorted in that house, Emmeline finally managed to make it to Potions.
"Nice of you to join us," Snape drawled coldly. His black cloak created a friction across the dusty dungeon floor as he swept around to quickly view Emmeline. "Do not think I will give you special treatment like the rest of the castle seems to be, ten points from Gryffindor."
"Sorry, I got held up," Emmeline responded quietly, taking her seat next to Angelina.
"No, no, I'm sorry my class gets in the way of your celebrity lifestyle," Snape said, his voice scarily silky. Deciding it best not to answer, Emmeline buried her head in her Potions textbook. She felt fearful under Snape's piercing glare that remained statis on her for the remainder of the lesson.
When the bell finally signalled the lesson was over, Emmeline picked herself up and charged out the dismal dungeon as quick as she could. She was so caught up in a combined embarrassment and anger fueled from Snape's lesson that she didn't even notice Fred was propped up against the wall waiting for her. Confused and a little hurt, Fred called after her. His voice snapped her out of her tangled thoughts and her face bloomed into a wide grin once she identified the voice. Emmeline, apologising for ignoring him, explained what happened in Snape's lesson. Instantly, Fred was riled. He puffed out his chest and furrowed his brow.
"Do you want me to have a word with him?" asked Fred. "He's just jealous that two Gryffindors got into the tournament."
"No offence, but you're not exactly Snape's favourite. He's not going to listen."
Fred shrugged, slightly crest fallen that he couldn't swoop in and save the day. "If you're sure?"
Emmeline nodded. "Thanks for offering though." She reached her tip toes and peppered a kiss on his cheek. The area of his freckled skin that Emmeline touched flushed a deep magenta. His hand flew to his cheek, it was hot to the touch.
"I'm never washing this part of my face again," he said.
"That's a bit dramatic. What if I were to kiss everywhere on you body?"
Fred wiggled his eyebrows. "Everywhere, huh? Well then I guess I'd never wash anywhere."
"That's revolting."
"Thank you, darling."
Emmeline replicated Fred's pink hue but was burst out of their moment by a commotion in the Entrance Hall. To cater to the couple's curousity, they recalcuated their route to discover the source. It was Veronica, and judging by the plethora of luggage surrounding her, she was heading home. Relief flooded Emmeline.
"I really don't see what Veronica has done," Mr Siegel said, his face ruddy with frustration. Judging by his auburn mustache and designer robes, this was Veronica's father.
"It's all her fault!" yelled Veronica as the blonde entered her eyeline.
"Oh, is this the girl that's been making up the lies about you?" Mr Siegel cooed, wrapping his daughter in his arms as though he was a bird protecting its young. Veronica wailed in response. To everyone else, she was faking her tears but her false cry seemed to tug on her father's heart strings. He pulled her even closer and handed her a gold hankerchief. Emmeline felt jealous. Veronica didn't deserve nice parents like that.
"They aren't lies!" Emmeline argued. She wasn't going to let Veronica worm her way back into the school and her actions left unpunished.
"Emmeline, stay out of this please and go to your lesson. Mr Siegel, the evidence is clear and we have made our final decision to suspend Veronica for the rest of term," McGonagall said firmly. Emmeline was disappointed to hear she wasn't expellled fully.
The violet vein in Mr Siegel's forehead bulged further and further out his glazed forehead until Emmeline was certain it would pop out. "In that case, I don't want my daughter in such a school. Come on, we will transfer you to Beauxbatons, you've always wanted to go there." The Siegel's were known for their wealth, but Emmeline couldn't fathom the extent of their riches if they could just move to France within the hour. Mr Siegel waved his wand and all of Veronica's belongings floated after the father and daughter as the stomped out of Hogwarts. McGonagall watched their dramatic depature. She sighed, turning on her heel to make tracks to her classroom. She stopped when her eyes landed on Fred and Emmeline.
"What are you two still doing here? I told you to go."
"We were just browsing," answered Fred.
"Browsing?" questioned McGonagall.
Fred nodded in confirmation.
"And what exactly are you browsing? Because to me it looks awfully similar to eavesdropping."
Fred looked at Emmeline in an exaggerated disgust. "Eavesdropping? Us? No we are simply browsing the Entrance Hall in all its glory."
Angelina and George had appeared. "Where have you two been? We've been looking everywhere!"
"Browsing!" Fred repeated impatiently.
"Browsing what?" Angelina said.
"How many times? The Entrance Hall!" Fred yelled.
