The world still turned even though Fred's world was crumbling before him. Hogwarts held a funeral, much like Cedric's, at the end of the year for Emmeline. Fred hated it. He loathed everything that reminded him of her, because that was all they were. Reminders. Never the real thing. Never her. Though Daisy was sharing similar emotions, Fred avoided her at all costs. She was too similar to Emmeline. Mr Weasley attempted to make his son feel better by reminding him time is a great healer and that he was only young and would meet someone else. Fred was deeply hurt by this, bitterly accusing Arthur of suggesting he should replace Emmeline and implying his and Emmeline's love was not real. Everyone found it difficult to console him; he lashed out anytime anyone tried to soothe him. Mrs Weasley genuinely believed her son would never recover from this. When Emmeline died, a part of him did too. He was a ghost of himself.
Angelina was the complete opposite. She plastered a smile on her face and barely spoke of her best friend, acting like everything was fine. It was almost like she was pretending Emmeline never existed. Everyone was convinced she was coping so well. It was all fake. It was all a mask to hide the grotesque manifestation of anguish. She had no idea how to handle this quantity of pain and pretended like it wasn't happening. But when she was alone the mask came off, she cried so violently she was sick. She wished she could turn back time and intervene Emmeline's application for the tournament. She wished she could've traded places with her.
Daisy was, of course, struggling too. However, where Fred was more angry, she was more sad. She would sit for days and days on Emmeline's bed, watching the sun go up and then down. She would end up surrounded by plates of food Neville would leave for her but they would always remain untouched when he returned to retrieve them. She never worried about the logistic nighmare her sister's death brought upon her like money worries and where the underage girl would live, saddness occupied her thoughts. She never thought about the future because she couldn't see a future without Emmeline. She didn't want a future without her sister. She only ever focused on the now because most days, she never believed she could even get through it.
It was quite a warm morning and Daisy was cemented in her usual position in Emmeline's bed when there was a knock on the door. She was spaced out and the sudden noise had snapped her back into reality. It was Fred.
"How are you?" he asked awkwardly.
"Spot on," she replied bitterly, moitoining for him to enter the room. He remained on the outskirts, he didn't want to be submerged into something that reminded him so much of Emmeline. "Yourself?"
"Never better."
Daisy smiled. It didn't quite reach her eyes, which were still glazed over with tears. They stayed in silence for a while but it was comforting. The two people who loved Emmeline the most were united with the same pain. Daisy turned around to look him in the eye. He looked malnourished and pallid.
"I don't think I can live without her, Fred," she admitted, wiping a single tear from her face. She didn't even know why she was telling him, it wasn't like there was anything he could say or do to heal her. There was nothing that could bring Emmeline back.
Fred took a deep breath. He wished he could promise her that everything would be okay. That time would heal everything and that one day they would look back on the memories of Emmeline and smile. But he couldn't. "Me neither."

Three years later, Fred Weasley's life was stripped away from him. He died a brave man, fighting for what he believed in. When he met Emmeline once again, she was beyond proud of her one true love. They were together again at last. They were finally home.
