"Get a move on or he'll think you're not coming!" bellowed Angelina, practically pushing Emmeline out the door.
"I really think I should change into the-" She was interrupted by Fred.
"Wow, Emmeline, you look great," he grinned. "Sorry, I just came to see if you were still coming..."
"Well I never, it's Fred Weasley actually feeling flustered?" Angelina teased.
Fred immediately adjusted his posture, resuming his usual suarve demeanour. Emmeline liked seeing she had this effect on him, though she much preferred his confident self.
"Anyway have fun! But not too much," Angelina added, earning her a scornful glare from Emmeline.
Fred held out his arm for Emmeline to hold, as though he was inviting her to dance. She accepted it, instantly feeling her nerves slip away from the warmth of his touch.
"So, how are we going to sneak out the castle?" Emmeline enquired.
"We're just going to walk straight outside."
"Please tell me you're joking."
"No."
"But Fred we're going to get a detention!"
"Em, you're untouchable! They're too proud of you to put you in detention."
Emmeline gifted Fred a sceptical look but continued to follow the boy outside of the castle. The sky was a blanket of sapphire velvet with a dusting of stars. The constellations had really put on a showcase for the special event. It was breathtaking. The air was cool, drawing a slight shiver across Emmeline's body, her nervousness only just managing to stop her from visibly showing symptoms to the coldness. She subconsciously pulled her apricot coloured cardigan further across her body.
"I like your cardigan," Fred said.
"Thank you. Angelina said it made me look like an old lady and was desperately trying to convince me not to wear it."
"No, no. I like it. Very...you. Oh, are you cold?" Fred realised that the action must have meant she was cold. He was too distracted by how cute she looked, and how his mum would love to knit her a signature Weasley sweater.
"A little," Emmeline admitted.
"Do you want my jacket?"
As much as she wanted to say yes, and embrace the warmth and scent he would leave on his jacket, she didn't want him getting cold. Admiration blossomed inside her and she cherished his simple, kind offering.
"Wow and they say chivalry is dead," Emneline teased, trying not to let on how pleased she felt. She wanted to literally squeal.
Fred blushed, embarrassed that his cocky demeanour was dropping. "It's all an act. Soon enough I'll show my real colours. "
"And what colours are they?"
"Dark. Very dark borderline evil."
Emmeline chuckled.
"STOP!" yelled Fred, making Emmeline jump.
"What?" she asked, scanning the area for potential danger. "What's wrong?"
"Can't you feel it?"
"Feel what?"
"The perfect spot is right here."
"The perfect spot?"
"Bloody hell is there an echo? Yes, the perfect spot. Can't you just feel the good vibes? Yes, yes this is it." Emmeline knew he was probably just pulling her leg about this 'perfect spot' business but she found it adorable all the same. Emmeline watched as he waved his wand and summoned a large bag. He pulled out a checkered blanket and a candle.
"Had to borrow the blanket off Ron. God knows what will be on it," Fred said, scrunching his face up as he imagined potential scenarios. "Sit down then." He patted the space next to him and Emmeline sat down. Luckily, her long tarten dress covered any potenial flashes. Fred reached into the bag and pulled out a stash of food, including shiny, succulent fruit and fluffy cakes.
"Where are all these from?" Emmeline asked. She was in awe of how much effort he'd put into this. All for her.
"The kitchens," he answered simply, generously buttering a slice of fruit loaf.
"Don't let Hermione hear you've been using the elves," warned Emmeline. As she remembered Hermione's enthusiasm and potenial aggression surrounding the mistreatment of elves, she physically shuddered.
Fred shrugged. "They like it. That ugly one hasn't been the same since. She's a borderline alcoholic now."
"The ugly one?"
"Yeah I'm aware that doesn't really narrow it down..."
"Much like you and your siblings," Emmeline joked.
"Ouch." Fred faked being wounded until he couldn't conceal his laughter anymore. Emmeline helped herself to some green grapes. "Oi who said they were for you? These are all mine." Suddenly, he jinxed her so her arms were too heavy to move, making her drop her grapes. Emmeline screamed.
"What's up?"
"Some idiot has jinxed me."
"A handsome idiot?"
"If he undoes this jinx then yes!"
Fred ignored her request and began throwing grapes at her.
"What are you doing?"
"Duh, you were supposed to catch them in your mouth."
"This strikes me as a safety hazard."
"She can get past two Triwizard Tournament tasks but chokes on a grape."
Emmeline laughed and Fred unjinxed her. Although Emmeline had worried about it, the date wasn't awkward at all. It felt natural. As though this was how it was meant to be.
"I guess I'd have to give you mouth to mouth if you did get a grape stuck."
"Hmm no I'd just use a charm."
"It sounds suspiciously like you're trying to avoid putting your mouth on my mouth..." Fred's words trailed off as he locked eyes with Emmeline. Turquoise orbs of desire and passion stared back. He could finally see that she wanted him as much as he wanted her.
"Can I kiss you?" he asked, abandoning his previous jokes. This was serious. He wanted this to he perfect.
Emmeline, now looking increasingly more nervous, merely nodded. Her breath hitched as he leaned forward, propping himself up on his elbow. And they kissed. It was everything Emmeline had wanted it to be. Her lips craved more. Maybe she didn't need everything to be perfect. Fred didn't need to be the one. She wanted to live not just exist. And she had a feeling Fred would definitely be providing some adventure.
