To say Emmeline had a crush on Cedric Diggory would be an understatement. She adored the Hufflepuff. But who didn't? His caramel skin, chiselled jaw and tousled brown hair made him borderline irresistible. But Emmeline knew a boy like Cedric wouldn't want her. She viewed her hair as lank and dirty blonde, hanging around her sickly pallid skin speckled with brewing pimples. When she looked in the mirror, she saw her eyes as watery blue not a vibrant ocean colour she craved.

It came a surprise to no one when Cedric proudly claimed he'd be entering the tournament. Emmeline could easily see he would get chosen; she just hoped the eternal glory he would achieve if he won wasn't distracting him from the imminent danger that would persue.

She assured herself the boy would be fine after carefully studying the outline of his muscles throughout the entirety of Charms. It was a welcome distraction as Emmeline always felt anxious in Charms. It was a class she shared with Veronica, Vivienne and Velma: the three most popular girls at Hogwarts. They were never bothered, never harassed and had all the boys chasing after them; Emmeline would give anything to be like that. She worried they would mock her, even though they rarely had the time of day to give her a second glance.

"Walshaw, are you daydreaming again?" squeaked Flitwick with a tut and a nod of his silver hair.

Emmeline sat up at once. "No sir." She blushed, causing Veronica, Vivienne and Velma to start sniggering.

Angelina, who didn't take charms, was waiting outside for Emmeline. Eventually, the blonde trudged out the Ravenclaw's classroom, looking glum. Angelina's expression managed to turn more sour than Emmeline's as she announced the fact that she had a detention.

"Detention!" exclaimed Emmeline. "It's the first day back!"

"Yes yes, I know that," Angelina replied impatiently. "I forgot to do the summer homework. Too busy at the world cup, you see."

"Oh it's alright for some," laughed Emmeline, nudging Angelina before linking arms with her. "I barely left the house all summer!"

Angelina hushed her tone. "You could change that, if you told someone you're living alone."

"I'm fine. I've been on my own for three years now, I think I can manage. They'd only put us up for adoption, Daisy and I would probably get seperated. We don't need that after all we've been through." Emmeline released an irritated noise as she made her point.

"I guess you're right," Angelina said. She wasn't convinced Emmeline was right. But what could she do? The girl was almost stubborn enough to be a Hufflepuff. Angelina had no idea what she would do in her friend's situation so she just had to trust Emmeline was doing the right thing.

The duo approached the Great Hall, eager for lunch. Emmeline was busily updating her friend on Cedric.

"You should just talk to him," urged Angelina with a shrug, swinging her legs over the bench and sitting down at the Gryffindor table.

Emmeline instantly grew flustered. "I can't do that!"

"You've fancied him for like two years now. It's getting boring. Spice things up by actually talking to him, what's the worst that could happen?"

Emmeline bit her lip anxiously. "I'll think about it."

"Cedric!" called Angelina, waving him over.

Anger rose inside of Emmeline, a volcano ready to erupt. "What the hell are you doing?" she spat. Even the way he leant slightly to the left when he walked made Emmeline's heart skip a beat.

"Hey, what's up?" Cedric asked casually.

"Emmeline wanted to talk to you." Angelina shot her friend an encouraging smile.
