Christimas day emanated a frosty morning glow, arising the girls in Emmeline's dorm. Angelina was already awake, tearing through presents. She secured a button on the cardigan she had bought for Emmeline but she didn't think the two would be exchanging presents this year.

Emmeline blinked through sleepy eyes and peered to a slightly smaller pile of presents to what she had gotten used to over the previous years at Hogwarts. She ripped open the usual pair of socks and packet of every flavour beans she received off Daisy. It brought a tear to her eye. She had expected nothing now she was friends with the popular trio.

Emmeline watched Angelina unwrap gift after gift from her family before rooting under her bed and pulling out a dusty wrapped parcel.

"Erm, I had got you this. You know, before, we....had our disagreement. Shame for it to go to waste...you know I doubt Veronica would want this." Emmeline released a strained, awkward laugh. Angelina snatched the parcel, a sceptic look bubbling in her chocolate coloured eyes.

"If this is some kind of sick joke sent from Veronica," grumbled Angelina scathingly.

"I'm not pranking you! Who do you think I am, Fred and George?" Emmeline laughed. Angelina's face surreptitiously creased with nostalgia before erupting in an appreciation she struggled to repress.

"Emmeline," she gasped, admiring the Quidditch broom repair kit. "This must have cost you so much."

"No, no, it was nothing," she said humbly.

"This isn't nothing!"

"It was on sale," Emmeline lied, quick.

Angelina looked at Emmeline sceptically. For a brief second, it was like the two were best friends again. That was until an awkward silence consumed them.

"Erm, thank you. This cardigan was my present to you but well, I'm wearing it now," began Angelina. "I was mad you! I still am. I assumed we weren't doing presents."

"I'm so glad you two are speaking again!" Katie beamed, bustling in from the bathroom. She was sporting a pastel pink scarf she had received for Christmas.

"We're not," said Emmeline. "Well we were, I guess."

"Chirstmas truce," said Angelina with a strained smile and a curt nod.

"So you're still friends with Veronica and that?" encroached Katie.

"Course," answered Emmeline swiftly. She could feel Angelina's hot stare pricing through her, making her sweat slightly. "Can't wait to sit with them at the ball. Actually, I better go find them. Wish them a Merry Christmas."

"Hadn't you better go say Merry Christmas to your sister first? Or is your own flesh and blood still not cool enough for you?" Angelina said coldly.

"I'll say Merry Christmas to who I want and when!" snarled Emmeline, anger contracting inside her.

"Right, well, we're off to breakfast. Come on Katie!" said Angelina.

"But I'm not finished-" stuttered Katie.

"Katie!" Angelina hissed sternly in a final tone.

"Breakfast it is," Katie confirmed, scurrying to where Angelina was impatiently stood by the door.

Emmeline located Veronica, Vivienne and Velma in the Great Hall at the Slytherin table. The trio were currently surrounded by tumultuous crowd, accepting gifts the gathering were offering.

"It's like they've all came to gift the baby jesus with gold frankincense and myrrh," Emmeline overheard Angelina scoff at the Gryffindor table as she walked past.
