Chapter 26

His phone hadn't rung. It hadn't buzzed. He had checked the settings at least a dozen times. The sound was on. He could receive messages. He'd made every guy in the house text him at least twice to make sure his phone worked. It wasn't the phone malfunctioning. She just hadn't texted him.

Jungkook laid on his bed staring at the black screen once again. He hadn't looked away from it in hours.

Namjoon stood in the doorway watching him for several minutes before clearing his throat. It didn't even earn him a glance from the younger man.

"Kook," he said softly, "what are you doing?"

He blinked. It was the only indication that he wasn't sleeping with his eyes open. "Waiting," he replied.

"For?" Namjoon asked. He knew what the youngest was waiting for. They all knew.

"Mina," he said.

Namjoon sighed and let himself into the room. He took a seat on the bed beside him. "She hasn't replied?"

"Nope."

Namjoon considered his words carefully. "What did you send her?"

Jungkook shifted to face him and his phone at the same time. "That I miss her. I needed her to know that I miss her."

Namjoon winced at the strain in Jungkook's voice. He had never seen him so tightly strung over something so small as a text. "She said she was going home, Kook. She may not have gotten the text. Yoongi advised her to leave her phone behind to get a break."

Jungkook's features turned from anxious to pained. "And she listened? She listened to him?"

Namjoon shook his head before Jungkook even finished speaking. "I don't know. All I know is that she's going to her parents' Inn for the holidays. She probably won't be back for a week."

He slumped back onto the bed, his face buried in his arm. "So that's it. A week before she'll even know. That's fair. I made her wait two weeks. I deserve this."

Never before had Namjoon seen Jungkook look so defeated. No matter how tired he was or how hard they had worked, he always pushed himself a step further. When he was injured he still pushed himself. It didn't sit well with him to see someone so determined look so helpless. "So that's it? You're going to lay here for a week and mope? You're just going to give up?"

Jungkook didn't move. His shoulders gave a small shudder.

"Since when do you give up on something? What happened to the 'I'm the Golden Maknae and I can do anything' attitude? I've never seen you give up on something," he stood and sighed, making his way to the door. He paused and looked back before leaving. "If she's worth it, don't just let her go. The Inn is in Gwangju."

He laid there with his head still in his arms until he lost track of time. His phone buzzed once, then a second time. Jungkook almost knocked the phone over in haste to grab it.

Mina:

He blinked several times. He had messed up, but it hadn't been that bad, had it?

Jungkook:

Mina:
