"What?" Virgil stood there holding his phone tightly as his teacher frowned. "I'm sorry, I don't understand."
"I said I'm withdrawing myself from the assignment." Mx. Jones's eyes went wide as Virgil sighed. "I cannot continue and I refuse to write the paper." Virgil's phone went off making the man narrow his eyes as his teacher sighed.
"Any particular reason why? I do hope your textpal hasn't said anythi..."
"Of course not." Virgil straightened himself out as he practically glared at them. "He's been nothing but kind. My reason is personal. I just can't do it, Jones. Please understand."
"But the extra credit..."
"I refuse to write any sort of paper on him!" The room hushed as Virgil practically growled. "To do so would be..."
"Virgil, please reconsider. Right now you're just under passing. This assignment will give you the points necessary to finish this class with a good grade." Virgil's hands clenched around his phone as it continued to go off. Jones just frowned as they looked down at it. "I do not think it wise to quit. Not if you want to pass."
"I will not use him, Jones. I'm sorry for wasting your time but I'm pulling myself from the assignment." Virgil started to turn away only for his teacher to jump up and stop him.
"Just hold off." Virgil frowned as Jones's eyes darted from his phone back up to him repeatedly. "Don't quit just yet. The paper was extra credit but you don't need it. Virgil, you are an amazing student with a bright future. Your participation in this assignment is already putting you in good standing. So... just hold off. Don't pull your name quite yet. And don't drop the class either." Jones smiled as Virgil frowned. "You might be surprised."
"Whatever..." Virgil slowly went to his feet as he sighed staring down at his phone. He had at one point thought of blocking Romans number but every time that thought crossed his mind...
MyLovingPrince: Anxiety?
His prince would text him and make everything just freeze up in him.
MyLovingPrince: It's... It's ok.
MyLovingPrince: You don't want to talk. That's... ok.
MyLovingPrince: You don't have to but please... don't ignore me.
MyLovingPrince: I can't take it...
MyLovingPrince: I don't handle it very well
MyLovingPrince: I'm not handling this very well.
Virgil's heart was broken into a million pieces. He wanted to find Roman and hold him tight but that would only prolong the pain. Virgil has proven the type of man he is and just can't do that to Roman.
MyLovingPrince: I don't hate you.
MyLovingPrince: I don't blame you.
MyLovingPrince: I understand... I think.
MyLovingPrince: I mean I understand that you would do this... that you would pull away but... I don't know why.
MyLovingPrince: It wasn't because of me right?
Virgil's eyes went wide as his hands started to shake.
MyLovingPrince: I didn't do anything, did I?
MyLovingPrince: I tried to make you happy.
MyLovingPrince: I tried to be the perfect prince for you.
MyLovingPrince: Did I not do enough or... did you not like what I did...
MyLovingPrince: Anx I just... I don't... I can't... I'm sorry.
Virgil found himself texting back but before he could send it he mentally slapped him. The whole point of this was to protect Roman. If he goes back on it now what good would that do. He'd just end up hurting him all over again. He's been doing so good. He hasn't been responding and everytime Roman's asked to hang he's always made some sort of excuse. Thankfully Remus has been helping with that. Virgil could always rely on Remus to have his back. He just could do it. He didn't want to see him. He couldn't see him. He cared too much it hurt to see him.
This was the better option.
MyLovingPrince: I'm sorry Anx.
MyLovingPrince: It's my fault.
MyLovingPrince: I pushed you too hard
MyLovingPrince: The phone and... I'm sorry.
MyLovingPrince: I'm an ass, I know.
MyLovingPrince: Ameilia was right, I just... can't relax.
MyLovingPrince: I'm sorry.
Virgil narrowed his eyes as he held his phone so tight he was afraid he would crack it. How dare he think that? How dare he apologize like it's his fault. GOD DAMN IT THIS IS THE FUCKING PROBLEM! Roman is far to hurt. He's damaged and broken because of those assholes and Virgil doesn't want to make it worse. He doesn't want to hurt him too. It's moments like this though that make Virgil break and falter. He wanted Roman... He wanted to hold him and to comfort him. He didn't want to hear him blame himself or to cry. He wanted that smile bit...
He was far too afraid of hurting him.
"Hi, yes. I'm looking for a Virgil Grey?" Virgil popped his head up only to see this redhead and frown. The teacher pointed over at him and their eyes met just enough to know he was fucked. Virgil instantly started to pack up only to jump feeling a hand touch his shoulder. "It's ok Virgil."
"W-Who..." The man smiled sadly as he held his hand out.
"Kai Rivers." Virgil's eyes shot wide as Kai's eyes darkened a bit. "You know me as Pain."
"R-Roman?" Kai's smile fell as Virgil grabbed all his bags and bolted. The two went out into the empty hallway before Virgil grabbed Kai's arm and dragged him to a corner surprising the man. "Is he ok?"
"Virgil..."
"I know it's my fault god damn it just answer the question." Kai's eyes flashed as Virgil began to tear up. "Is he ok?"
"No." Virgil's heart dropped as Kai's expression saddened. "No, Virgil, he isn't ok at all." Virgil's phone when off again this time a call and Virgil's eyes widened as he scrambled for it. He didn't answer it. Answering would be a response. It's bad enough that Roman knows he's reading all his texts.
"Virgil..."
"I can't." Virgil turned his phone off completely and just fell into Kai who although shocked held the broken man supportively. "I didn't want to hurt him more. I didn't want to be like those people. I left to protect him. I just..."
"It's ok Virgil. I'm not here to yell at you." Virgil hiccuped through the tears as he pulled away to find Kai smiling down at him sadly.
"You're not?" Kai shook his head as Virgil narrowed his eyes in thought. "Then why?"
"I wanted to make sure you were ok."
