We decide to go to iHop, for some late night grub. We're such college students. "How many?" The hostess asks. "Eight." Lilah replies. the hostess grabs the menus and leads us to our table. "It's a damn shame we come over here, to Miami and we still eating the same shit." Jaydah laughs. "We ain't rich. Can't switch up, yet." Dayquan adds, making us all laugh. The waitress comes and orders our drinks and food. We're here so often, we already knew what we wanted to eat.
We mingle and eat, for about an hour, before heading back to the house. We all go to our separate rooms, to get ready, for bed. "Can I talk to you?" Devin asks, as I lotion my legs. It makes me nervous. He said we'd talk, after the trip. "Yea sure." I answer. "Do you mind taking a walk, on the beach?" He asks. "I don't mind." Whole time, I'm freaking out. I'm about to walk on the beach, at 3AM, with someone who might hate me enough, to kill me. I quickly text my girls and let them know what's up. If we don't hear from you, every fifteen minutes, we're coming. Jaydah replies. I'll be watching, from your room. Lilah replies. My girls don't play.
We head down to the beach, in silence. He holds my hand, though. When we get to a spot he's comfortable with, he starts talking. "I don't know what it is about you Charity." I look up at him and sigh. "I just feel like we're supposed to be together." "We are." I chime in. "So why did you cheat on me?" He asks, worriedly. He looks so heart broken, I tear up. "I don't know. I guess it was just a rush and I knew it wasn't right. I swear I'm so sorry, Devin. I don't know if I'll ever make it up to you but I SWEAR it would never happen again." I plead. He just sighs. "I want to believe you. I do." "So please give me another chance. It was one stupid mistake and it won't happen again. I'm not even friends with him, anymore and I quit my job." "Wait, why'd you quit?" Devin stops walking. "He was my manager." I look down, as I say this. It's so embarrassing. "Charity, did he force you?" Devin grows angry. "No, Devin, he didn't. I was and still am in the wrong. I shouldn't have let it get that far."
I quickly text the group, as he looks forward. He's no longer holding my hand. "Do you love him?" He finally breaks the silence. "Not at all. I love you. With him, it was just lust." I respond. "Do I not satisfy you? Is that it?" I'm silent. It's not that he doesn't satisfy me, it's just that he's so gentle and caring during sex. There's no excitement. "No, it's not that." "Then what is it?" "He just did things you don't do and he appealed to my sexuality. But that's because that's all it was. And for the record, it only happened once, while we were together." "That doesn't help, Charity." "I know but I don't want you to think it was ongoing. It was one stupid mistake." "And what about ol dude at the concert?" "Oh Todd? I only met him one time, when they checked in at the hotel and then at the club, they invited us to. Never saw him again, until tonight." "Nothing happened?" "Nothing. It wasn't like that." I kind of lie. Todd is cute but I wouldn't have slept with him. "I love you, Devin." I look him, in the eyes. "I would never let this happen again. I am so sorry." He doesn't say anything. "I love you, too but I think we should continue this break." His words break my heart but I can't be mad. "Okay." I say, simply. He leans in and kisses my forehead.

We continue to be cordial and act like we didn't break up, even more, two nights ago. It's my birthday trip, so I can't let a broken heart stop my fun. We're heading to a day party at this brunch spot. It's been going on since noon, so we're already like five hours late. "We're never getting in." Lilah points out. We knew it would be packed, so we decided to use Uber. We all hop out and scan the crowd. "This is wild." Jeremy says. "For real." Warren chimes in. I get a text, from Todd and I roll my eyes. I don't need Devin seeing this. "I see ol boy." Devin leans into me. I thought he was talking about my message but he motions toward a waving Todd, at the entrance. Todd texts again and says Lucci wants us to chill with them. I didn't even think they'd still be here. "Y'all tryna cool with them?" I ask. "Hell yea, let's go." Jaydah says, excitedly, making Dayquan eye her. "Babe, they can get us in. Look at that line." She points out. Dayquan sighs but starts making his way, toward Todd.
Inside, Lucci has a huge booth, with just him, Todd, Reginae and like three other people. Everybody says hey and take our seats. "Shots for everybody!" Todd yells. I'm sure I'm the only one feeling uneasy. "Relax, love." Zora whispers to me. I shake it off and finally get into a partying mood. About three shots in, I'm feeling it. My phone vibrates and it's a random number. I open it. So this is what we've come to? I'm so confused. Who is this? I text back. You're not leaving me, Charity. Know that. I now know that this has to be Marcus. This man is insane. LEAVE ME ALONE. I text back and block that number. I guess we really won't be friends. I put my phone away and continue enjoying my night. Devin occasionally checks on me, to make sure I'm not too drunk. "I'm okay." I smile back. He gives me a small smile and I know the love is still there. I just need to give him time and he'll come back around.
